I’m all for the game getting away from daft old fashioned rules and traditions but this did raise a smile,

I was in my clubs bar with a coffee a couple weeks ago and one of the juniors, maybe only say 12/13 years old came in through the door taking his skip hat off.

It was really noticeable and made me remember back in the day as a junior little things like that that were drummed into you, probably lost nowadays at most places, which I actually agree with. But made me smile none the less

Clubhouse ground floor remodelling and total refit is now all but completed with a formal opening event on Thursday. In my eyes, and how it feels from the briefest tour a couple of weeks ago, it is transformative whilst retaining the essence of the old building that it is - and most importantly - it's still very clearly a golf club. And on that - joys - we've got all new competition honours boards and they are all of a very traditional wooden design. Probably won't go to the formal opening on Thursday evening, but planning to go for a drink with Mrs, daughter and her B/F early Friday evening.

I think members (on the whole) will recognise and value the transformation (of course it wouldn't be a members golf club without there being a good deal of whinging), and that visitors will be impressed and add to their experience.

Plus I believe that we are going to offer the residents of the village some form of very inexpensive social membership. The village now has a lovely bar, restaurant and function facility literally on its doorstep and we are keen to encourage resident use - though I note that residents use is not core to our 'business plan' for our new facility - it remains a golf club clubhouse that will be open to the local community.

We can now put our full focus on the course.

I sold a set off irons a couple of months back...not cheap but less than I probably could have got for them..
Browsing eBay, as you do, I recognised a listing as being the same set.
He obviously didn't get on with them and is trying to move them on
He stuck them on at more than he paid for them
They didn't sell and he's now dropped the price to well below what I sold them to him for....might buy them back.....😁

Went back down the range and the par 3 course today

Night and day compared to yesterday

Firstly nobody came to the next bay! I went almost at the end . To avoid people lol

Instead of shank city I only had about 10 in 120 balls but really improved my contact

Then went down the par 3 course

Yesterday was shank / fat shots. Today was pure irons and wedges lol ridiculous. Hit them so well I went through greens instead of short

What a silly game we love

Having a course that's so playable when wet

It's December, so far this month I've played 5 times (bear in mind I'm a 5 day member) playing once next week then having a 2 weeks break

Most courses round here are unplayable or just boggy

No mats. Winter tees or temp greens

Definitely getting my money's worth

Fantastic that my clubs be chosen to host the pga professional championship in June

Even better that it's also not the 2 weeks I have off in June so I won't be affected too much by the closure lol 😆

I followed the link to your course's website. Seems like a nice place, I love the idea of the sauna and the gym included in golf membership. I like modern courses where the site has enough space to build a well designed and interesting layout.

But then they go and ruin it all with the marketing blurb about an inland links 🤦‍♂️

Problem is it's a modern term but people won't move with the times. Plenty of coastal winds being just over a mile from the Thames , right on the estry

Once they finally finish the 3rd 9 it should be even better because whilst they are doing big events us members can have the unused 9.

They are spending a lot of money on it atm, redoing all the bunkers that had sleepers to be deeper bunkers

They are planting more gorse aswell , one batch is just for visual but the other will make the 600 yard par 5 a lot harder (it's already a card wrecker) as there will be narrow openings for shots

The key component of links is the sandy turf. Windy has got nothing to do with it.

Ganton is an inland links.

Elderly member of our congregation collared me yesterday after church. "You play golf?" says he..."Yes" I reply, says he - "I'm clearing stuff out and I have some golf balls and some tees I want to get rid of - would you like them?" Of course I said "Yes that would be lovely thankyou". Why wouldn't I. Well...with the many hundreds of balls I have in the garage....erm. You never know. There might be some old classics in the bunch. The thought is always in the giving - not what is given.

'My' player's flight landed a wee while ago, so we're now set for a practice / orientation round tomorrow morning and pro-am Wednesday before the real action gets underway

Just a wee bit excited

I see tickets are Rs600 (about £10). Good value I'm just struggling to find a flight from London.

Clubhouse ground floor now fully open in new reconfigured and completely refurbished form...and it is very splendid indeed. Retains the look and feel of a golf club clubhouse interior - and much that made our clubhouse 'homely' and 'special to us' - but much more comfortable and a lot more flexible and practical. And I've discovered my seat when at the club myself for a coffee or bite to eat - nicely tucked just out of the way - with an ok view of one of the TVs - and right under the board that I'm on twice (the only one I'm on).
