This gave me an idea. Off the gold tees at my club I have a CH of +1. I’m better than scratch!

I’ve achieved the dream. The fact these are the forward tees that I would never play from is irrelevant

Can’t believe I got to scratch without writing a blog or documenting my progress on instagram.

Just out of curiosity , I did the same and I'm +3 of our Blue Tees

My wife is researching my family history and discovered that my grandfather played in the 1906 Muirfield Open aged 23.
One of the few amateurs in the field his opening round was 74 which was up with the leaders, he fell away to finish well down the field.

Been playing poor lately, and Index risen to 9.7, giving me a course handicap off 11. Generally been shooting mid 80's, too many nightmare holes, and rubbish approach shots on average holes leading to bogies anyway.

Yesterday, started with a triple bogey 7, and threw in a couple of doubles later on (one of which on the easiest hole, 300 yard par 4, on the course). However, final score was a 6 over gross 77, and that included another 2 or 3 very good missed birdie chances.

So, my heart was gladdened by that, Index gone from 9.7 to 9.0. Will make the most of it before shooting a couple of 95's next weekend

Invited my dad out for 9 holes at the mini links, I started awfully. Fatted 2 wedges and then put one in the ditch .. (3 different holes) by the 5th hole dad had a 3 shot lead

Luckily I found some form and he found 2 bad holes and I managed to beat him by 6 shots lol

Back at my parents now with my niece having ham egg and chips before I go to work

Second and final informal meeting at Wildernesse tonight with the GM, Captain, Lady Captain, one member and 4 other provisionals to discuss how we've found the joining process thus far and to let us know our names are now going into the book for 20 signatures. Once the signatures are in, I'm in! 6 months they say: I've done it in just under 3!

@C7usk - Not so unusual for a private members club, and in fairness, more relaxed than some of those too!
You get proposed by a friend, then have a play in round with a past Captain or current committe member and an informal chat with the assistant GM, current Club Captain and two or three committee members. If that goes okay, then you are accepted as a provisional member. 6 months subs paid, and then you have up to 6 months to play or meet a minimum of 20 people.
Once you've done that, another informal chat with similar group plus other provisional members in the same situation to give them feedback on the process and understand final steps.
Your name goes in a book and once you've got 20 signatures, you're in as a full member.
And that's when they hit you for the joining fee and subs for the remainder of a full year.
