Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

Do you think with your course being very short that putting practice into your short irons and wedges would be more beneficial?
The more often you can hit the green the less you have to chip.
Also with a lot of par 3s getting those tee shots onto the greens could well be the difference between an ok round and a great round
I am hitting more greens already. Last round on my home course was 55.6% GIR. I've been around the 40-50% mark whereas last year it was more like 25%. The thing is, I can practice full shots at the range, but I don't really have anywhere to practice chipping, so I kind of just need a simple technique that works - at the moment I'm in a state of having tried everything and not knowing which way is up. I'm never going to go around hitting every green so I never have to chip. Good chipping technique is really important at my place as all the greens are on slopes so you can easily short-side yourself or leave a tough downhiller.

Sounds to me like hitting more greens at your place is more beneficial if the greens are very tough.
Of course you are not going to hit every green and chipping is always going to be important.
Just another perspective to consider was my thinking especially if you don’t have anywhere to practice chipping.

Took Mrs MorningStar and my youngest to the range this early on this evening so that I could get back and watch Reading play. She absolutely loved it, the bug has officially bitten her so much so she has been searching for outfits that will match the bag she decided she needs! Ironically she’s picked all these out before sorting a set of clubs 😂

So last week I was on a cruise and a guy had his leaving do, so I missed it. He is emigrating to Thailand. Anyway one of the lads videoed his leaving speech. Flippin eck it was powerfully stuff..
his wife passed away a couple of years ago and bottom line he said it would of been quite easy to take his own life. He openly stated it was the lads in the fuddle that got him through.
Said it before, there’s more to golf than playing to your handicap. 👍

Playing tomorrow in an Open, cost 20 quid which also gives you coffee on arrival, soup and a hot roll after 9 holes and then a three course meal after the golf, only problem is I will be off a 2 handicap, but the bonus is another card through the system before my trip to Thailand next month.

Soup? Not so hot in Oz at the moment then!

After my medal round yesterday I awake with my HI under 6 - with it being 5.8 that’s my lowest ever (it was 7.7 on 14/08)…and a PH of 7 off the back tees. That’s my lowest back tee handicap since the mid- late 1980s, and 5 being my lowest ever handicap off the front tees..my previous lowest front and back being 6 way back then in the 80s.

Shows what lessons and practice can do for you - until 3yrs ago I’d never had a lesson and didn’t practice as I didn’t know what to practice.

Sitting outside the bar just chilling at the club yesterday, watching players at the turn.
One group of visitor/tourists, one young lad gets his birdie while his mate runs into the proshop and came out clutching a box of a dozen balls... just sums up golf really

I almost made a post on this subject yesterday - I was looking at Jamies score history over the last couple of years - he's been having lessons about every 6 weeks since we came back from Spain, and joined a club last September that has free range balls and great practice facilities - he's going up shortly and will be there all day working on different aspects of his game.

While he hasn't had a period of playing out of his skin this year, he's eradicated the wild scores and now views anything over 80 as disappointing - hopefully he can post a couple of low scores in the closing stages of the season to get back into the 4 point somethings on his handicap index.Eng golf.png
