Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

1st day of our annual golf trip to Wales. Newport today.
Didn’t play as good as I can, but Newport today was probably in the best condition I have seen it. Like most places a bit firm and could do with some rain. Greens were really good. If you know the course I hit driver wedge into the third green. The ball was going forever if you hit the fairway.

Centurion next week? A wee hop round the M25.
My Mrs is thinking more of us going to the States to watch her as part of a longer trip - most probably sometime spring or early summer next year (maybe round about Augusta time - now that would be nice...but tickets...). US aside...seems almost certain that the Evian and maybe also the Solheim (if LW is selected) are on the map.

I know it's early but I make this the post of the day! 😂
Can I have a go in the same vein...

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens; bright copper kettles and warm woollen mittens...hmmm - must work in a golfing theme to that..

Silver white winters that melt into spring - these are a few of my favorite golfing things...

Sorted

Though not as lyrical as the OP.

Got an email yesterday from The One Club informing me that I've won 2 tickets to The Open next year and I could pick what day I wanted. I obviously went for the Sunday and had it confirmed this morning that all is good. Will have to make a weekend of it and fit some golf in too, so if anyone is up that way and wouldn't mind a couple of visitors on the Saturday, let me know

What’s the secret 😂😂
Wish I knew, I’d bottle it up and sell it.

This year it’s been a combination of things. Started at 2.8, went up to 5.3, bought a new putter and started making putts. I’m also longer this season, the speed training I did from Jan-Apr worked, I’m probably 15 yards longer off the tee and a club longer in the irons. I can reach both our par 5’s in 2 if it’s not blowing a gale into.

This run I’ve been on has mostly been putting though, I track my stats with Shot Scope and I’m over 2 strokes better on the greens since June.

Officially in the best form of my life at the moment. My goal for this year was to stop the rot and try and get back into the 13s - having gone up to the 16s at the beginning of the year. I've now got into the 12s for the first time, at 12.5. My overall goal from years ago was only to get to around 12, I never really harboured dreams of getting to single figures or anything, so I'm only 0.5 away now from what I realistically thought I could achieve.

I've broken 80 on my last three rounds in a row - which is a far cry from not breaking 80 once in 2024. I've recently achieved a round with no doubles for the first time, and a run of six pars in a row which I'm pretty sure is the most pars in a row I've had. If you check the first post you'll see I made this thread when I first got below my mate Ben - he's currently on 12.0 though, although he doesn't put cards in like I do. So my next goal will be to overtake him again!

Next on the agenda - the main thing holding me back at the moment is my chipping, which has covered the full spectrum from holing out from 30 yards, to knifing it through the green regularly. So I think I'm going to book a chipping lesson and see if that makes the difference and makes single figures a possibility.

Do you think with your course being very short that putting practice into your short irons and wedges would be more beneficial?
The more often you can hit the green the less you have to chip.
Also with a lot of par 3s getting those tee shots onto the greens could well be the difference between an ok round and a great round

Well done, sounds like that slice is now gone?

Hope I haven't just jinxed this! 🫢
