Golf targets for 2012

To half my handicap.

To get a putter I am confident with and avg 30 putts per round (36 currently)

Consistently hit fairways

After a truly awful year this year, during which I have gone up from 9.1 to 10.5, my aim is to return to enjoying my golf and if that brings with it a handicap reduction then so be it. I put far too much pressure on myself from the start of the year to get cut that my golf went to pot.

We have an issue with CSS which I am never going to overcome (in stablefords we invariably have to shoot 36 points just to buffer), so I am simply going to try and forget about it and have some fun.

Three main goals this year:
To win something that gets my name on the board, rather than come runner up (which I've managed twice in the last two years) :(
To sort my swing out by May 1st, so that it's more repeatable. Not every time obviously, but with the new swing will come more consistency. Currently almost sorted the backswing!
To get down to 11 by the end of the year, although I'd love to be single figures, I just don't think it'll happen this year.

Good luck to everyone in your quests for attaining your goals!

I'm not going to set myself targets regarding my handicap, I've done that in the past and when it goes boobs up in a medal I end up getting frustrated about it and not enjoying it.

I'm playing some half decent golf at the moment, so I'm hoping to cut out the pies, get fitter and continue to enjoy playing this great game. If the handicap comes down on the back of it then brilliant, if it doesn't then it isn't the end of the world.

my target is to just gain more consistency over 18 holes rather than 10 decent holes and 8 mediocre/pants ones. If I can do that the h/c and scores will take care of themselves

Having only recently just joined a club, my first goal for 2012 is to get an official handicap!!

Once that is done (hope to get my cards in by April), then I would then be looking to consistantly break 95 (24 handicap), but hopefully getting down to the 90's!!

Would love to finish the year with a 19 handicap, but would settle for less than 24!

Pass. Its owned by Tom Smith now who has spent a lot of money on the course. Joined it this year as it presented the hardest challenge of all my local courses.

You certainly have the game for a single figure player!

It's all in the mind, young Padawan..... :whoo:

Myself,i am playing a lot less than i used too due to a new job.
However having reached 9 for a few weeks, now 9.8,im confident of
getting to 8.
Now my putting has improved a little.

Once I get a lesson and cure the demons surrounding my short game then I'm confident my game will be in good enough shape to shave a few shots off. I'd like to get to 9 or 10 but not hung up on it. If I'm honest I'd just like to consolidate the work I've put in on the range, get more consistancy and play as much as I can and enjoy it whether its good or bad.

Other than that, win the winter knockout with Hawkeye, bag a club comp or two, ideally honour board events, go to a few forum meets and just have fun

That's two of us want to win the winter knockout Homer!!
Other targets are to be able to hit something longer than a 6 iron off the deck reasonably consistently and to get my handicap down to 11

1) enjoy my golf
2) play regularly
3) play to my handicap on a regular basis
4) if I do point 3 I'll reduce my handicap an obvious aim
5) improve my short game, from 100 yards in
6) take on more par 5's in two, improving 3 woods from the deck

mainly it's to enjoy my golf, simple as.

1. Beat my twin brother in Spain in our annual trip abroad.
2. Beat the other two in Spain in our annual trip abroad.
*3. Enjoy the 'golfing experience' no matter how I play.
4. Dwell on my bad shots for no more than 30 seconds, not 30 hours!
5. Beat my twin brother in Spain in our annual trip abroad.

* In order for #3 to apply it is taken for granted that both #1 & #5 MUST HAVE been achieved!

All the best for the New Year,
I hope you score your goals,

Slime.

As a case in point, I went to the GM Centenary day at St Pierre with one goal. Not to make a fool of myself and given the way I'd been playing that was a pretty big ask in itself. Rocked up, had a great draw with Sawtooth and Barham Blue and just went out to have fun. Did ok but assumed I'd be well short and lo I qualified. Did the same at the FoA. No pressure and with Billysboots taking the proverbial, not a lot of chance of taking anything too seriously. Relaxed and did well.

It begs the question why is it I can relax and have a laugh in roll ups at my club but can't reproduce the form? It does prove however that the less you worry about the outcome the more likely you are to release the iner golfer and actually play the game you are capable of. Just a question of doing it on demand thats the issue
