Golf targets for 2012

As I started at the end of this summer, my aim is to get more consistent and break that 100 barrier. The biggest aim though is continue to enjoy this great sport irrespective of whether I play poorly or well.

Same target as last year, break 100. Came close with 103 in August, then bought new irons. Todays round is the best I've had with them, 105 and 30 pts. Still got room for two more rounds this year though, Thursday and Saturday. If I break 100 on one of these daysthen I guess a realistic target for next year would be break 95, or get down to a 24 hc or something.

Well, after a great year this year I can't see myself doing that again, so poking at simply enjoying myself on the course, get the handicap down a couple at the new course and qualify for the Trilby Tour final again.

I've been thinking recently and I've decided to abolish any targets and just get out play and try to play every shot 100%. No negative thoughts, no worrying about anything else and just play.

I know I can play to a decent standard but I just haven't put it together enough over 18holes and its all down to me setting targets and putting pressure on myself even before I'd teed off.

Some good points here. A few years back I'd have had loads of swing thoughts, be wound up about performing well and focussed to much on trying to get the handicap down. Got in a vicisous circle of practicing too much, not playing with any freedom, not enjoying it, not defending my handicap and repat and repeat.

Following some direct words on here I've been much more relaxed about my approach to the game now. I still want to do well but 0.1 is the worse that can happen. I try and just enjoy the company, do my best and if I play well the handicap cuts take care of themselves.

Well said Homer, i've been trying to get back to cat 1 for 3 years now but finally the pennies dropped and i'm more relaxed about it now, i'm also enjoying it much more.

Get some weight off and get fitter (about 3 stone)
Get the bike out again and do some good milage.

Golf wise: Play as much as possible and get the child out more and maybe enter some father son comps later in the year. Ensure I play as well as I know I can and reduce handicap. Most of all enjoy myself at all times no matter what happens.

By June I would like to get my handicap down to 18, which in my first 12 months of golf - would make me very happy.

Homer I'm glad you've listened because there's nothing worse than after 3 holes your round is down the pan because of the target and expectations you've put on yourself.

We make this game so hard it's unreal so take away everything that could potentially harm your round and enjoy your golf, and I'm sure your handicap will tumble.

Best of luck old pal.

Reduce my handicap. I've been messing about with a high handicap for too long now. Having started to see some serious improvement in my game I will be working hard over the closed season, especially on my iron play and short game which are definitely the weakest areas.

I just hope that this time next year I will be posting to say "Mission accomplished" and setting anew target for 2013. :whoo:

As an addition, I'd love to get the lad interested in golf again. As a youngster he had a very fluid swing. He's now a bit older and stronger and has a hell of a drive on him. Me jealous? You betcha!!!
