My 2nd biggest gripe in this respect is how players can walk (and often must walk) past an obvious pitch mark or unraked bunker and not do anything about it.

Our annual in trade golf event looks like it’s going to be cancelled due Bureaucracy. Every year each branch has 2 day golf event. Usually allowed to arrange accommodation at nearby camps as it classed as representative sport so it doesn’t require time off and is approved at the highest levels. Usually costs around £100-£130 for the golf over 2 competition days. Can also get a reduced rate green fee if you want a practice day in your own time.
I won’t go into full details as there a lot to unpack but the gist of it is. This year though our Golf association has decided not to recognise these events as representative sport, this means nobody can request time out of work, they cannot request any form of accommodation in the area it’s played and cannot have any allowance for it counting towards other service events.
It’s going to go from a well attended , well priced event to something that’s not going to be attended as hotel costs, fuel costs and food is going to cost north of £600+, which nobody is willing to shell out before they get approval at unit level. Not only that this has been set in stone for years and only after all the course bookings been made having been previously approved they’ve now pulled the authority and recognition. Absolute shambles all because of a change at the top of the Association and them wanting to have their events only as sanctioned to raise their prestige and not let these trade events be sanctioned as they feel it dilutes their authority.
Last count 2 weeks ago there was 14 Vets & 68 current service personnel as confirmed entrants in the event. As of today’s announcement only 21 people in total now are going to be able to attend! Of those only 7 are current serving plus the 14 Vets. Absolute Shambles and another great kick in balls for moral!

What 'Golf association' is that? Where do they come in the hierarchy of Golf? Have they got such authority?

It’s a military association it governs certain things with how things are run. All rules of golf are in accordance with the R&A. However they operate golf through an official service association as it means golf is then recognised as a service sport, not just a hobby so it has absolute control over whether personnel are released to compete and what they sanction as representative sports comes under their rules and it’s perfectly above board for them to do so within all sports under the governing bodies as to what they can and cannot release personnel for under the “terms of representative sports”.
So to answer your question yes they do have the authority to do that. Just a shame they’ve made the decision they have and it is being appealed but the term “Service need out weighs sporting participation “ stands up under their rules.

You’ve completely missed the point well done
But then considering these people spend months of their lives every year deployed away from families , these events and accommodation give a little back as a thank you to them. Oh and for the record military accommodations not free it still has to be paid for it’s just a damn site more affordable for people with families than high end hotel costs. But nice to know my irritation which I’m entitled to annoys you !!

I love a crisp pair of white shoes but keeping them that way is a nightmare. But then wearing black shoes which are easier to clean just looks crap with white ankle socks and shorts

I always used to buy black shoes for winter to hide the dirt but as soon as we got to shorts weather I couldn't wear them, so now all my golf shoes are white.I love a crisp pair of white shoes but keeping them that way is a nightmare. I had a pair of black Nike ones, they were my winter shoes so rarely worn outside of the months of Oct-Mar/early April. I swear my wife has binned them Assuming well he never wears them as they’re nowhere to be found.Exactly that. I always used to buy black shoes for winter to hide the dirt but as soon as we got to shorts weather I couldn't wear them, so now all my golf shoes are white.
Currently wearing the most comfortable pair of White NB ones so much less stress on my dodgy hip and feet. But the UA coloured trainer ones are calling me every time I see them

I have some white leather Ecco shoes. Keeping them looking good is a full time job. Lovely to wear, comfortable as can be.
In their sale I have bought some synthetic upper shoes from G4. Seem just as comfortable, and when I get home I wipe the over with a damp cloth. Good as new in no time. Lesson learnt.

Watch the sizing. I have some NB trainers, so I bought some of the above online in same size, couldn't hardly get my feet in them. Back they went.
