Golf Random Irritations

Whatever works for you mate. I think that idea is a fairly decent way of getting the ball aligned in the middle of the club face. Question is will it put you off on longer shots 😂
I think my brain is pretty good at ignoring the line when it needs to. For the first three holes on Sunday I even forgot to use it on the greens so I'd drawn all the lines for no reason.

(Much like Tiger) I have no alignment line on my putter so I've never needed/wanted one on the ball ;)

I've literally been lining it up like this though for God knows how long:

For some reason that's become my default position and hitting out of the centre of the putter feels weird like it's out of the heel. So needs sorting probably.

That position isn’t necessarily an issue. Especially as you’ve mentioned you play on greens with treacherous downhill putts. The toes end will have less rebound on the ball that the sweet spot centre strike. Meaning you can make a better stroke on those fasts downhill putts rather than being to tentative and guiding the ball and holding back. So it could actually for you improved pace control putting from nearer to the toe end.

There are downsides if you find you push a lot of putts that can be a cause, but the centre of the club isn’t always ideal.

The new ‘thing’ with marking balls is some sort of dot/spot to focus on. I’ve done this for a long time, I mark all my balls with a stamp party to identify them, but I also look at it when I’m putting.

I did try the line thing for a while but found I was spending too long getting it just right. I’d be down behind the ball ‘yep, that’s spot on’, then get over the ball and it just looked way off to the point I couldn’t trust it.

Funnily enough I’m watching tubes course vlog at the minute where he’s playing a comp with a caddie. On the greens the caddie is giving him things to aim at which are off the greens! Wtf! So he’s saying things like ‘aim at that marker post’… no chance, give me something about a foot away from me that the ball needs to roll over!

Had it in Turkey during a scramble, the first chap to putt hit a good one just short ‘where were you aiming then?’, his reply was ‘at the corner of that building’ which was about 200 yards away! Some people!

But I've been doing this through the winter, seemingly, and leaving everything short. 😂

I think I'm just going to try the dot later and see if that feels better.

Yeah, agree, that's another reason I don't love it. Trying to get the line pointing in exactly the right point when in reality none of us can aim that precisely anyway.

I do sometimes use things in the background to get aiming lines, when we're doing a scramble or something. There's not always an actual mark on the green where you need one to aim at. But as I said earlier, I think I putt best when I just have a vague feel for it and let my brain figure out the speed.

The irony is you’re now making the change coming into the season where it will benefit you most 😂

I bought a pair of Adidas Stan Smith golf shoes a couple of years ago, intending to use them throughout the summer. I didn't end up wearing them much as they weren't super comfortable at the back of the heel - I wasn't willing to persevere through the pain to try and break them in.

Well, I gave them a wear for 9 holes on Saturday evening and they've given me such a blister on the back of my heel it's unbelievable. Still unsure what to do with them.

Unless anyone has any ideas for breaking in the back of a shoe quickly (bar just preemptively putting on a plaster and wearing them a lot), I might just stick them on Vinted or something. I can't have worn them more than 20 times in 2 years, possibly even 15. At the moment they just feel like such a rigid construction that they either fit you straight away or they never will.

What I used to do for work boots was heat the leather with a hair dryer to make it more playable and then twist, bend and mould the heel to soften it up. Used to work really well for leather boots never tried it on a trainer or golf shoe though, considering how little you’ve worn them I’d bang them on vinted and go buy a new pair that doesn’t need manipulation to make it comfortable.

My mate has had some proper bad ones over the years. Both of these for example.

View attachment 61334 View attachment 61336- yes the face is curved on that second one.
That first one is very similar to the Futura 🤮

That second one I’m not allowing, I had a heel shafted teardrop putter with the curved face. Does exactly what it says on the tin and gets the ball rolling end over end without skidding. I loved that putter and from above they look pretty decent.

Shame, I've been pretty lucky with the fit of shoes over last 10years & didn't realise this was still a thing since they stopped coming with killties

Can't help thinking you'll need to tweak the ad before it goes to Press though ;)

He can't chip though so he putts out of the rough and it was useless. The amount of times he topped and skied it with putter from there was hilarious.

I did think while writing it that they wouldn't end up selling on the forum!

It's not particularly about the money or anything and I have another pair I can wear, it's just a shame to have them sitting around and I do like the look of them. It's also unusual as I've had other Adidas shoes of similar variety (Sambas, Gazelles etc, albeit not golf shoes) and they are some of the most comfortable I've ever owned.

If shoes hurt me I put a wide sellotape on my heel.
It lets the shoe move and not blister your heel.

Might be enough to wear them in,
I hate new shoes I have the same problem with heel blisters but this trick really works.

Might just be a sizing issue with that design. Sometimes with trainers I really want I have to either get them wide enough but slightly too long, or the right length but slightly too narrow - guess my feet are quite wide. Right length but too narrow is usually the mistake and they can be a bit sore after a lot of walking.
