Golf Random Irritations

Ah that’s rough. Shoulder rehab can drag on forever. Sounds like it keeps coming back for you. What actually set it off originally?

Just curious what they’ve had you doing in rehab, always interesting hearing the physio approaches to shoulder mechanics with golfers.
A serious muscle pull and shoulder froze for 18 months on 2 occasions

Various repetitive movement up to 8 times a day. Heated pads for an hour and massage twice a week

Just come back from a week long golf holiday in Turkey, what a stunning place!

I don’t mind playing with any skill level of golfer, I’m mid handicap, who am I to say that someone is crap if they’re a high handicap. However, spent a round with a 34 handicapper and his attitude stunk from the first tee shot which he shanked into a bush. Tried helping him ‘you can take a drop, you’ve got 2 shots’, nope, he picked up, not to help pace of play but because he couldn’t be bothered. It was a team thing and he contributed along the way, 4 points some holes, but as soon as he hit a bad shot out comes the aggressive self abuse again. Very distracting. In the end I stopped trying to help him, I’m on holiday too, and I just played my own game. Bearing in mind he plays once a year on these golf trips, surely you’d set your expectations accordingly!

Contrast that with a 28 handicapper on the other team, not beating himself up over bad shots, enjoyed the good shots, accepted that sometimes a bad shot can end up good…

Thank you ! (y)
That's exactly what I needed to be told right now and still need to learn - but I'm working on it ! 😞
At least I don't stop playing, but count my strokes strictly according to the rules.
But in fact, the (mostly) bad strokes bring my mood down much more than the (few) good ones can rebuild my (already not particularly strong) self-confidence (at least when it comes to my golf game) ... ! 😢
Unfortunately, this all too often makes me forget that golf is just a game and that we play it to have fun!
But as I said: I'm working on it !

Just back from practice at the club

After practice i sat at bar watching a newbie player address a 35m chip on 9th green
5 practice swings using arms only, duffed it 5 paces, while his PP went to putt he took 13 (yes thirteen) practice swings next to his ball (arms only again) then at address he took 9 more practice swings, duffed it 3 paces after 22 practice swings
Third chip took 4 practice swings and found the green, group behind and played into green by now too,
4 smashed putts later he picked up

Literally all he was doing was practicing how to duff a chip

At one point, the 28 said to the 34 something along the lines of ‘you’re a 34 handicap not scratch so why are you expecting to hit every shot perfectly’!!

I don't expect every stroke to be perfect, but I would like it to be ! 🤷‍♂️
In theory, I know *exactly* how the “perfect stroke” works, and when it fails (again), I know *exactly* what I did wrong (again), and yet I still can't get it right ! 😞
It's frustrating ! 😤

I think I’d have had to say something that’s just painful.

A guy we play with, and who comes on all our trips, has a stinking attitude on the course.

He’s low single figures, should be lower, but has an absolutely appalling short game. He refuses point blank to have a lesson, when a couple of sessions would probably sort him out and get him down to near enough scratch.

Really nice fella, known him years, but if he’s playing badly then, boy, don’t we all know it. Shouting obscenities, cursing himself, he thinks of nobody else and how his behaviour may be impacting on them. We’ve been on golf trips abroad as a 4-ball with him and he has ruined them. Last time out, during one round, I lost count of the number of times I had to step away from shots because he was still effing and jeffing as I stood over the ball.

The problem the rest of us have is that none of us particularly wants to take him to task whilst we are away, as we don’t want the rest of the week ruined. When there are only four on such a trip there’s no escape if he takes any request to tone it down the wrong way.

But as we start to plan our next trip for later this year, I am heartened to see that the guy who owns the villa we stay in, who is one of the four, has met with him and told him a few truths. In short, he’s been told that, unless he can show between now and November that he is capable of moderating his behaviour, then he is no longer welcome on the trip.

Watch this space.

I have found previously that people like this don’t realise how bad they are and the impact they have on others.

Hopefully the quiet word will work and he will be more enjoyable to play with.

We all know it’s nice to be a good golfer but it’s nicer to be a good golfing partner
