Golf Random Irritations

The Tokomo Irons ad at the top of the page ( sometimes)
"The Fairway is Calling"........
Personally, there isn't a single hole on my course, that isn't a par 3, that I would take an iron off the tee....
Others may and that's cool
But I don't and I find it irritating that they didn't use "Green" instead of "Fairway "....
See what you mean, but could their ad be wanting to mean where your hitting your shot from, and not where you’re hitting it to….?😀

Quite. On a 400 yard par 4, I’m hitting driver 250 and then an 8 iron, whilst he is hitting 4 iron and a PW, so I did understand he was playing the percentages and we talked about it.

But it would have been more entertaining for me if he hit driver and left himself a flick with a wedge 🤣. He’d get more birdies, but also more bogeys. Obviously I do understand that he doesn’t play golf to entertain me, but if I was at his level I would probably be more aggressive in the monthly medal and save the conservative strategy for more important competitions.
Oh, lucky man, your mate. To be able to play golf like that(sigh).
From what I hear commentators say on TV, it seems most Pros like to leave a full club distance to the hole rather than a half pitch etc.
So a full wedge into the green might be the better play.?

I haven't played since Dec 27th. Our course has been closed every weekend since then, most days midweek as well. It is not a bad draining course, there has just been too much rain, relentless rain. The water table is so high. It's been closed all of this week, I expect it to stay close at the weekend based on the firecast for the rest of the week.

Thats nothing......😉
Ive not played since 8th November
Though I've played 18 holes in dubai on the simulator at a local club, thats the full extent of my winter golf

I wonder whether this is Myth number 11.

Pros get closer to hole from 125 yards than they do from 75 yards.

Looks to me like a myth that could be exploded.

Depends on the pin position. If there’s no green to work with they need to leave a fuller shot in to generate spin.

Well, it would be interesting to ask them😁

It’s fair to say that Pros do work hard to work on attaining ,and working to , exact distances for their irons, especially wedges.

I have been invited by a Client/friend to a game at Royal Cinque ports in a couple of weeks time including a few drinks and dinner and overnight stay all on his company.
It’s the same day I go away for a weeks holiday. 😡
Do you need to send a proxy?!

*for the golf. not the holiday!

I nearly bought a 5 wood yesterday. Didn't massively need it but it was shiny, a good price and I am going slightly stir crazy. It had a make an offer on it so I did. The person didn't respond, they don't have to, and this morning I see it has been sold.

I'm not sure if I am irritated that I didn't just buy it at the asking price or irritated at myself for getting drawn in and nearly buying it.

I need the rain to stop 😭

Same here....we've had an inch of rain a month since November...even our course built on chalk can't cope with that....
Oh, and it's a miracle I haven't bought anything too....

This could have gone in the other thread for irritations.

Gave Golf monthly my email hoping to receive useful info. about golf with golf courses, rules and interesting articles similar to National,Club Golfer.

Receiving around 4/5 emails a day. Overkill, and so disappointed. If it continues will probably stop as it is becoming junk mail. I know I have a choice.

Which one do you go for. I’m intrigued but the clubs they make, extremely good looking and grey reviews across the board.
I’ve gone for the 669 CB with KBS 80g graphite shaft. It looks the nuts - really looking forward to trying it.
I looked at all the DTC offerings. They were the only ones with a combination of the style of iron I was after and a graphite shaft that is supposedly very steel-like at a good price.
And of the ones that came close, it was only Sub70 who were happy to sell me a test club at the pro-rata price.
I really fancied the Ben Hogan PTx Tour irons but the only graphite shafts were UST 760 which, from what I’ve read, I think would have been a bit too light and floppy, even in stiff. Plus they didn’t offer a test club and I’m not spending £700 on an experiment.
