Golf Random Irritations

Having to call in and get a Marshall to come & hurry up a 3ball of young lads who were dawdling today, I’d already asked them pick the pace up to make sure we’d get round in time, but they just took forever on every tee, and walked like it was a long summer’s day….

And....? Did they hurry up? Seems like I should be singing something from Grease.......like.....does he have a car?
 
Another switch of clubs this year. Going back to my original club....and maybe keeping my second club. Oakdale is getting cut out. Knaresborough has a large practice ground.

I was having a look on Golf Empire around Northumberland for opens.
Virtually no individual opens but some clubs have a few pairs ones.
Assume there is more money in these for clubs.

They are pretty much all 4bbb around here, Northumberland, Durham. In the same way Scotland seems to be all individual, we are all 4bbb. I presume it's trial and error and that's what fills the timesheets 🤷

If you are not seeing many yet, I think January is probably the main release time.

I've tried subtlety but today I've had to be blunt. It's a real shame, I shouldn't have to do that. It puts me off inviting him but it would be awkward if we didn't and played almost behind his back. Disappointing.

Hopefully, you being blunt will be a wake up call. In future, I’d still book and pay up front rather than lose the slot. Equally, I’d give him a deadline for payment but also tell him if he’s late you’ll get a sub. If he doesn’t have a consequence, he won’t rush to pay.
 
Just to add to this. Been looking at Open comp myself this evening and all bar one in my area is Pairs or Seniors individual. Nothing for the under 50s as individual strokeplay events, the only possible ones so far are across the border in Surrey as part of the Surrey Mid-Am tour with the cheapest coming in at £100+ for 18holes at some not overly exciting course except maybe 1!

Hopefully be more options in the new year.

Lots of clubs haven't posted their Opens yet. Are you in Berkshire? There were singles (non Senior) on there when I looked. But not many clubs posted yet.

If there are courses you fancy, its worth looking on their sites, to see what they do and when they go live

Hampshire but specifically Hampshire /Surrey border. Could easily go the other way into Berkshire in 20mins didn’t think of that I’ll take a look as some nice courses over there I want to try.

More courses within 30 miles of your front door than most of the uk😁 Must be able to find something.
