Golf Random Irritations

I know I have told this story a few years back on here. But I took over the running of the Xmas party’s at the pit. I would pick a nice place and the lads would duly pay up. The guy I took over from who retired ( Dangerous Brian). He told me “ you end up chasing people up for money because they don’t want to pay until the last minute.it causes loads of headaches”. Guess who was the only person to pay a couple of days before the party. Dangerous Brian. When I told him he thought it was funny and didn’t apply to him as “ I always knew he was coming”. 🫣
The following year I never told him about the party and he ended up chasing me up to get a place. I told him you are in as soon as you pay. The following day he called into the pit to pay.
That’s how to do it.
Make them come to you.

I play with 2 guys at a weekend. Decent guys but one is tight. I've booked 2 opens for next year, two of the more, comparatively, expensive ones. One guy pays me within seconds of booking. The other..........

I've tried subtlety but today I've had to be blunt. It's a real shame, I shouldn't have to do that. It puts me off inviting him but it would be awkward if we didn't and played almost behind his back. Disappointing.
I had to go blunt on Monday, today the payment has arrived 🥳.

We got there eventually but I won't be booking him in for future opens. It makes it trickier as most up here are 4BBB but I'll get around it and leave him to his own booking.

I much later found out that this guy, who got a lift into and from the club every week for twenty-five+ years from a friend of mine (who had to go out of his way to pick him up), never even once bought him a single cup of tea or coffee, never mind a beer, as a thank you.
This is awful. No golfer wants to be known as a cheat, a slow player, or last one to the bar. Anything else but those three.
I think I must be lucky, I organise two overnighters (hiking and football, not golf) and lots of opens every year and (touches wood) I hardly ever have to chase anyone. I've must have got my mates all trained well! :)

I use to organise a golf break for 16 of us.
There was actually about 20 of us but the guys decided they wanted to keep the numbers to 16.

The 16 who went the previous year were offered it first with the others on a reserve list.

I put a WhatsApp out informing people each date to pay and how much. If they missed the payment then first on the reserve list took over their place and any money they had already paid was non refundable.
To be fair only ever had a problem once when a guy was going through some personal stuff and totally forgot but when I called him to say payment was due the next day he sent the money straight over ( he was arranging his brothers funeral at the time).
