Golf Random Irritations

When it comes to county champs or any big board comps at clubs they seem to set up the course for a long and hard as possible which then affects pace of play

We do it a little differently by bringing a few tees up , not making the greens silly quick but putting in the pins in tricky places
But surely you can’t bring tees more than 10 yards up, so hardly a big change?

Possibly. That happened at our Seniors Open, 3 of the top 5 were disqualified for not having put enough cards in over the last year. However, it was sorted pretty quickly and the results were posted that night.
I manage our Opens. It takes me some 40 odd minutes to check that all of the winning players meet the T&Cs of the competition. The last entries go into the software atound 2000. As I do the early shift on the desk, starting around 0600, I’m not going to check the results until, the next day.
If any of the prize winners do not meet the ToC criteria, we contact them before posting the results - all that takes a bit of time.
What I’m trying to say is that it is not as easy as just posting the results up in 10 minutes.

I asked one of the lads what was happening and he said when he got to the 6th tee they were the 3rd group on the tee. The course has 2 par 3's before then, the 2nd and the 4th is 210 yards and normally spaces groups out. I think what might have been happening is the 6th is a 510 yard par 5 and if it was the prevailing wind then it's downwind so I'm guessing most groups would be waiting on the green clearing with their seconds. I'm not a big hitter and when I played the other weekend with the firm fairways and not even a nailed drive I still managed to reach with a 4 hybrid approach. A lot of these guys will have been hitting mid irons I would guess.

Especially because anyone playing between then and it being uploaded is effectively playing with an incorrect handicap.

Have seen it with a couple opens last year where it’s took a week

But it’s not good if a qualifying score isn’t on the HC yet

In my experience, competitions do not have to be finalised/published/closed for a score to go on a players record.

During the life of WHS, my club has used two different comp management software packages...Handicapmaster and IG. In both cases, when a score has been entered, even if the comp has not been closed, the score appears on your handicap record the same day. In HM's case it was pretty much instantaneous - the moment your score was entered, it appears in your handicap record; in IG's case there seems to be an undefined, variable, delay....but it does not depend on the comp being closed.

That is my experience as well

If it’s a singles open it should be reflected on your HC record but only if the results were entered into the ISV

For some it might be cards in a box and done the next day etc

Perhaps not impacted your handicap then?

To see the results, go into hdid, click the 3 horizontal stripes top right, search for Whitley Bay. Click their name when it comes up, click Mens competition results, third down ( at the moment), Seniors Pairs Better Ball. Ta da 😄
Got it, thanks. Winning score of 47 is pretty impressive!

No, for me, a club should be making sure this happens when taking in £thousands from an open.

Again it depends on the club , the size of the open etc and “making thousands” - again not sure how many make thousands

There are some clubs that don’t have office working staff at the weekend and helpers or pro shop and the stuff is sorted out on the Monday

Every club is different

we have 10 minute spacing on our tee times, we watched the group tee off at 9am, then waited until 9.10 for our slot and teed off. we were a 2 ball so pretty quick. the group behind teed up at 9.13......
This irritates me! I refuse to be rushed if someone has started early, at a previous club I was told early doors to stick to tee times and it worked really well.
