Golf Random Irritations

I know that. My question was very much rhetorical and I was wondering how many people actually have starters on the first tee

Ours is definitely not a fancy course but for weekend competitions we have a starter (a volunteer member) who reads the rules of the competition out, states the tees and asks players to identify their ball and show a pitch mark repairer.
They then say when to tee off, it generally works well.

What is this starter thing? Only seen it at 2 clubs before (Cumberwell and St Pierre) and played quite a few round the Bristol/Wiltshire area.
I've never been at a club that has a dedicated starter on the first tee. You often see them at opens, but regular club comps, not common up here.

I'd say it was quite a luxury to have one (yes, I appreciate they are volunteers)

We used to have one for busy days and random times - they would also go out on a buggy to marshall.

We now use the Pro shop staff to regularly on course marshall in a buggy.

What penalty?
Rule 7.3 :
If the player lifts their ball under this Rule when not reasonably necessary to identify it, (except on the putting green where the player may lift under Rule 13.1b), fails to mark the spot of the ball before lifting it or cleans it when not allowed, the player gets one penalty stroke.

I’m keen to get my understanding of the Rules correct, so please let me know if I have misunderstood this. Is this a reference to 14.1?

Or should I have said “not marking the spot of their ball” rather than “not marking their ball”, as that could be interpreted as physically putting an identifying mark on it.

My good lady wife is playing this morning at St Pierre, 8 mins down the road. 10:18 tee time.

10:00 Phone rings. "Help, I left my trolley battery at home, can you bring it down?"

10:03 I jump in the car with the battery.

10:08 I am turning into the gates of St Pierre, phone rings. "Where are you? We've decided to drop out as it's pouring down!

Thereafter, I am driving home and the sun comes out! :ROFLMAO:

Sunday weather forecast for today was rain all day so I changed from my regular golf day to yesterday. At one point yesterday it chucked it down.
It has not rained today

Not if the starter tells you to go, no?

When we were asked for suggestions for the new rules one of the ones I put was about the 'start on your tee time rule' (personally I do not see any point in having a penalty for teeing off early) and requested an addition allowing committees to waive the rule for an early start but it was turned down.

County Championship at our place tomorrow. Course is partially closed to members, but managed to get a course courtesy tomorrow afternoon at one of my favourite local courses.

Looked at the forecast yesterday - thunder and lightning all afternoon.

Looked again this morning, the thunder and lightning is now only due in the morning. However it’s now saying heavy rain all afternoon.

Can’t see us playing. Wonder if they will allow us to play on another day?

Very unlikely, I would have thought, as the reason for the courtesy is the non availability of your course tomorrow not another day.
If they can’t play the Championship tomorrow due to the weather that prevents you playing elsewhere and play it on another day then you should get the courtesy for that day.

Yes that’s what I thought, although a couple of the other course courtesies available did state they were for a different day, to be arranged.

I’ll give them a call, they can only say no.

Which course are you due to play mate?

We've got courtesy at my place in next 2 weeks on a couple of different days.
Couple of the clubs state, instead of the normal date and time, that there's a 4ball voucher to just use whenever
Never seen that before
