Golf Random Irritations

Anyway getting back to golf

Played an Open at the weekend

Greens were like glass - no issues with that

Expect there wasn’t enough grass on them , inconsistent growth and no depth at all to them making it near impossible to land on the green and stay there

Add in some silly pins and putting was a nightmare - think I had 9x3 putts

Being harangued in German by a course marshal, to speed up play after less than two holes on the Nobilis course in Turkey, on Sunday.

All he saw was the group in front of us teeing off on the fourth hole, as we were about to play our approaches into the 2nd, and was visibly angry and aggressive in his demeanour.

A response back towards him, throwing some limited German in, suggested in no uncertain terms that he needed to be aware that the group in front had been allowed to tee off about 15 minutes early.

I don't mind him asking us to speed up play....it was more his angry gesturing at his watch and the group in front and absolute refusal to attempt to address us in any amount, even limited, of English.....and if he didn't know any English then he would become the first person I have ever met, in any sort of tourist oriented service role to not know even a few basic words...the girl sat on the buggy with him knew basic English...as she was selling drinks a few holes later.

The Noblis belongs to the Robinson club, which I believe is very much targeted at German customers. So not surprising he thought you were German.

What confuses me is why they let anyone tee off ahead of their alloted time. Aren't the Germans sticklers for following ze rules? 😅

I had a similar situation around 27 years ago when I was playing a new local course with a friend on the two-for-one ticket scheme back then, and we could play twice in the same day if we bought the day ticket.

They had marshals at the time, and when we were playing the second hole on our first round (Wednesday was our usual day) we were told that we should be keeping up with the group in front - which were about to tee off on the 4th hole.

The course was quiet at that time, and nobody was in front of us on the booking sheet.

We had teed off on our correct tee time at about 8:00am and we received our telling-off at around 8:15am!

To be fair, when we told the pro about it before our second round, he gave us a complimentary drink.

P.S. On that first round we quickly caught up the group in front, and we were stuck behind them for about 12 holes with clear air in front of them, and not a marshal in sight!

yep I'm aware of the German "bias"...but the three groups behind were all French, the two groups ahead were Scottish and there was a large group of around 2 dozen other English fellas in the bar as well....an international mix if ever there was one.

It could have been worse. You could have been a senior lady off the tips on a Par 3.....o_O

Shotscope missing lots of shots/adding random shots each round, the number of times it thinks I’ve driven it 370 and holed out for eagle is ridiculous!

I have two pairs of golf shoes, both a few years old. One pair has started to rub the little toe on my right foot, the other pair have worn at the heel and the worn area is rubbing the back of my heel. Annoying.

Are you lucky enough that the rubbed heel is the left one? If so I think I have a suggestion to fix this for you :sneaky:

The suns out, the golf course is burnt like it's July or August and the visitors are back in abundance and here's the irritating bit so are the caddies, can expect rounds to take at least half an hour longer now 😉

Played in an Open today. Took nearly 5 hours!!!!! There were three groups of us waiting on the first par 3 we got to with one group on the green. Not only that but I lost 4 balls. One of them was my second shot into the green on a Par 5 and we had no idea where it went after that. Crap shots and bounces were the cause of the others. Won't be rushing back to play there again.

Watching someone practice chipping on putting green and I'm thinking, does he not know its not allowed or worse, does he know and just doesn't care

Trying to hit a wedge off baked hard lies like concrete. Thinned a few today. 😱
Thought it was just me Ken, shortside yourself leaving a pitch over a bunker off some of these lies is a nightmare, I had one over the left greenside bunker on 17 tried to open the face a bit and shanked it into the burn, luckily just a bounce game, the walk of shame ...........
