Golf Podcasts

A good recent episode from No laying up was TC’s interview with a guy seve saiz, who was taking a golf trip to Scotland but had his car broke into and everything took from clothes, clubs to camera equipment.
But then still went, went to golf clubs for cash, hired a camper and just winged it to all these courses.
It’s long but a good listen.

Eddie Pepp’s going to need to the way his golf’s went
It did cross my mind that perhaps a successful podcast could provide a very nice level of income to make up for a poor run of on course earnings. But I wouldn't know enough about it to know exactly how much. The beauty of a podcast is the flexibility of it in terms of recording, can be done from anywhere or in Eddie's case if he's away at a tournament, etc.

I don't think they make much if anything from people listening to it, it only depends how much advertising they can sell in the middle of it.

It must be making some decent size income for the three of them why would you bother if you didn’t .. Eddies schedule must be a logistic nightmare and he turns up week in week out for just a chat because he enjoys it ? Nah doubt it

I know a lot of the comedy podcasts have patreons with extra content normally around £3-5 a month couple thousand of people signing up and it’s a canny racket … don’t think chipping forecast do that

I noticed today they advertised for DP world, aswell as their usual Ping & Peter Millar. That’s where the £££ will come from

He only has to phone in remotely for an hour from wherever he is? And it's not like he makes cuts, his weekends are usually free. 😂

It’d be a really poor weekly golf podcast if they recorded on the biggest days of content for golf mind talking about events where you don’t know who has won 😂

One I listened to recently that I thought was good was from the links diary podcast about Hogan at Panmure. About him spending two weeks there during his only open at Carnoustie 1953.

Just if it is of interest to anyone, some of the tales of what he got upto, the reasons he ended up staying where he did and practicing at Panmure were interesting to hear.

He has to put aside about 1-2hr each week for a telephone call. If he is on the road, this will be from a hotel room. If he's at home, it will be a from a spare room. He doesn't do any research beforehand and he doesn't do any editing afterwards.

As an aside, I find him quite annoying at times. He can't control his temper on the course and despite saying he wants to fix it, it doesn't seem that he is genuinely doing that.

PS I think it is a fantastic pod but I think I would prefer if it was Cotter and Carter as the hosts, with a different pro each week. That won't happen of course but there we go.

I'd be the opposite on that, if Pepperell wasn't on it I could see myself losing interest

It's a serious plus of the podcast that they have a current player, you feel you're getting a serious insight into tournaments. Eddie could be playing on a Sunday and you're getting his thoughts by Tuesday morning. No other pod has that type of access.

Beef's Golf Club did briefly, but that's pretty much stopped now and he practically stopped playing golf as well. 🤦🏻
