Golf Podcasts

One that's not been mentioned above is The Tournament Code. There have been no new episodes since the end of July, which is a shame, but there are 106 available to listen to. Each one has a different guest, including Sacho MacKenzie, Jayson Nickol and Dr Greg Rose, so a lot of topics are covered over the episodes.

Shotgun start is my most listened to pod. Takes a while to get over their faintly ridiculous mid-western accents and catch up with the in-jokes, but definitely worth it. They're very much part of the professional golf ecosystem, but they still approach it with somewhat of a jaundiced eye and haven't sold out....
... unlike NLU, which I still listen to every now and then, but very much toes the party line and has gone a little too corporate imho. Also, I've got a bit tired of the main characters over the years...

... and I also tried the chipping forecast, but another character I couldn't warm to (and for the same reasons), is EP.
I tried Chipping Forecast a couple of times but Eddie comes across really pompous to me and I couldn't listen to it anymore.

An occasional listen is Lawrence Donaghan's McKellen pod, but it doesn't come out very often. His cohost (Shackleford), is a bit of an acquired taste.

Hackitout is decent. They keep Crossfield in his box, more or less.

There used to be an Aussie based pod back in the day called "state of the game", which I think of as the granddaddy of golf pods. Not sure if it's still live, but the previous episodes might be worth a perusal.

I do struggle to listen to the American ones to be honest. I find their accents very droney and samey and it's hard to pay attention for any great length of time.

Yeah I didn’t realise that wow wonder what went on there

I’m guessing he was on a fair wack after leaving his other paid gigs
I’m sure some know better but it was all pitched as a parting of ways - very much glossed over. Think they tried to cut him down to a part-time player but obviously he needed full-time employment. His instagram gives the impression it was a shady move and was difficult for him personally…..certainly made me think differently of the NLU crew who always struck me as ‘content over cash’ - maybe not

I listen to loads mentioned but chipping forecast is definitely my favourite, I do quite like NLU more so when it’s players or decent guests that are on, RU macdonalds Scotland episodes are good.
Erik Anders lang show, cookie jar, life on tour, shotgun start, 1457, roughcut, talk golf scotland,
The thing about golf interviews by John Huggan are good too.
Do sometimes listen to Rick shiels but he annoys me a bit, beef and beemers best bits used to be good but not been episodes in a while.
Recently quite enjoyed golf badgers too, good for anyone interested in greenkeeping.

Good thread, couple in here I’ve never heard of I’ll give a go

I used to listen to the Eric Anders Lang podcast but stopped when it became 75% advert (exaggeration - but not much!)

My two main ones are Chasing Scratch and The Mind Caddie by Karl Morris - which is phenomenally good, some of the episodes are interesting enough, but there are some which are ridiculously good and have definitely helped me play better golf.

I couldn't get into Chasing Scratch. I was told you need to start from the beginning but it started like 8 years ago, and I just thought, I'm never getting through all these. Like when someone tells me a TV show is really good but they're already on series 13 and I can't be arsed.

If you find Americans annoying, then you'll never like it anyway. I started listening to it during the original Covid lockdown and found it a bit amusing. When I realised that the second series was just the exact same stuff, with the same unfunny jokes, I gave up with it.

There are many podcasts and YouTube channels that start off fairly well, because it is all a bit amateur and different. Then they start making a bit of money, it becomes a business, and then the fun slowly disappears.

As mentioned by others here - NLU has just become a very boring podcast that has lost the magic it once had. Getting rid of Kevin van Valkenburg was a bad mistake - his stuff was by the far the best that had been on there in years.

I think Karl Morris is excellent, but the individual episodes are a bit dependant on those he interviews, some are very good and some a bit odd.
I remember one where there was a chap wittering on about the importance of breathing.
Yes I get it that breathing is important to stay alive and possibly you can use breathing techniques to control nerves, but you really don't need to be taught how to breathe any more than how to walk and 99.9% of anyone's breathing is done without any conscious input.

Spot on with regards to the fact that some are odd, but that's what I like about his podcast is that he's willing to give many different viewpoints a platform, even if he doesn't necessarily agree with them.

There are a few episodes that I've listened to numerous times because they are that good.

One that’s grown on me is the top 100 clubhouse, I’m not really a fan of all these course ranking lists etc but it’s not really always about that, especially the Scotland episodes, course architecture stuff that’s quite interesting

Can you recommend the really good ones ha

The Karl Morris stuff is really good. I was lucky enough to attend a live session oh his too, which I thoroughly recommend if anyone gets the chance.

I'm struggling with Chasing Scratch of late, I think Eli getting injured and not playing a season killed my interest, but also as it's got more popular there's more advertising and the amount of support they have is great but also takes away a bit of what the earlier version of the show was about, as it's less relatable.

I have felt the same, hoping that their current trip to Scotland brings about a resurgence of the golf. The bit of audio from maybe season 2, just after the hammer the nail episode with Adam Young, where the new conservative golfer Mike is in the trees and has a 'window' to the green still makes me laugh now!

Can you recommend the really good ones ha
One interesting Karl Morris podcast is actually the most recent Sweet Spot podcast, where Karl Morris is the guest and they discuss his philosophy in reasonable depth.
(And his commercial product as well, though it sounds good)
