Who would win?

Team a) Pro hitting tee shots and approaches, 18 handicapper chipping and putting, or

Team b) 18 handicapper hitting tee shots and approaches, pro chipping and putting.

So far 82% of people of Twitter have said B)

I agree with you.

Chipping will be minimal and the proximity to the hole on the pros approaches will practically guarantee a 2 putt at most

I also agree! For me certainly, my tee play has been atrocious, lots of provisionals/OOB/lost balls. Doubt the tour pro would have the same problem! When you look at last weeks PGA event in Hawaii, with Reed and Spieth both smashing 200+ yard approaches (on 18th) to one-putt distance for eagle, where Bubba did the same thing the year before; the answer is pretty obvious.

Struggling to see how anyone could pick B....
Pro drives me either hits the green or misses by a little with his approach - even with a chip and 2 putts/3 putts its going to be better than letting the amateur tee off and approach...

I have to agree. Not sure how many greens per round the tour average is but I can't imagine they would be far from the green most of the time. Even a pro will struggle in option B if the 18 handicapper is taken 3-4 shots to hit some greens and even then not always that close. Definite A for me

Definate A. Surely it's pretty logical to see that the pro's tee shots and approaches are gonna be a lot closer every time than any 18 handicapper. And any 18 handicapper (according to his handicap) is used to sinking his putts in 2.. and that's with his/hers tee and approach shots. Not a pro's. 100% A.

Short game is more important, but only when you can get round a golf course.
A for me regardless.

Definitely need a feature in GM on this with a couple of pros and a couple of 18h/cappers trying it for real.

Personally I'm also in the A camp and surprised at how many in the poll have gone for B.

Getting the ball in the hole is the hardest bit, most shots are played around the green.

The average golfer really struggles here.

So you'd rather just have the pro doing chipping and putting? Rather than the pro playing to the green and having a better chance of leaving the amateur with a tap in birdie?

Really? I'd put my mortgage on it that if you had a match with you playing the B format and another pair playing as A, you wouldn't just lose you would be destroyed.
