if we can look at the modern day of the professional golfer ,,,more & more young golfers are joining the pro tour there looking more lean physique there clothing is very smart close to casual ,the last thing any Junior golfer wants to do is dress in trousers & shoes just reminds them of being back at school if there not still there

but they will never have a say in there local clubs because were all tourt to respect your elders

don't get me wrong i like the older generation 63yr old Dennis beat me at a round of golf the other day he was a great man all I'm saying is the older generation like to hear about the younger generation but wouldn't want to change to it yes you can look smart dressed casual

I'm 39 & when i dress in trousers & shoes i feel like I'm going to a formal action

i would vote for jean but they would have to be any one full colour (not faded)

any t-shirts (no swearing)

shoes or trainers

only formal dress code on competition days :D

I guess this follows on fromt eh dress code thread but sorry I'm firmly in favour of no jeans and proper golf shirts and not any old T shirt. As for juniors feeling like its a school uniform, there are plenty of trendy manufacturers (Nike, Puma etc) where they can get a rainbow of tops and trousers and dress smartly and colourfully without it looking lie a scene from family wedding or school assembly

Im a mid twenties male who is all up with the latest styles and fashions and I feel there is no place on the course for jeans and collarless T-shirts. Its hardly formal wearing trousers and a polo shirt. Swap the trousers for jeans and its what I wear most weekends but with slightly less potent colour Polos. I always wear shoes to the clubhouse and most of the other times in my personal life as well. Why would anyone want to play in jeans is beyond me anyway?

As a 15 year old I have to say I completely disagree with this. Whilst I think some people I know would be put off by dressing in the correct way for a golf course even they would admit its nothing like being at school. I have to wear a shirt, tie and blazer to school everyday and when I'm playing golf I'm wearing a polo, jumper and smart chinos, with white golf shoes, all of it is a lot more comfortable than school uniform and to be honest you can pick up some pretty nice stuff (calvin klein golf etc) that I would be perfectly happy to wear when I'm out with friends, I think whilst golf should move with the times a dress code has been part of the etiquette of golf for years and in my opinion should not be changed.

Probably not an English teacher but one of those people who think that being able to spell correctly is both important and useful; I tend to agree.

i think it's a good thing that this forum doesn't allow bad words because these are the kind of replies that really get on my last nerves......

this reply and the one further up,get a grip ffs there's no need to be smart about it with a silly reply.why don't you's reply to the question thats being asked or don't reply at all.

You comment on what you want, I'll comment on what I want. My, and similar posts, get on your nerves - I get irritated by people who are too idle to use our language correctly; ok Wull?

no it's not ok,you think it's alright to blatantly point out someone's spelling mistakes?what if that person is dyslexic or isn't really good at spelling......why should you try and make a fool out of them.

Two really nice replies from the younger generation of golfers. They both are more than happy to abide by the dress code of our game. That is nice to see and refreshing. I'm sure this dress code relaxing movement we are seeing is more than likely to come from 30 something mid life crisis "I want to look like a 20 year old" brigade than genuine young golfers all of whom seem perfectly happy in their Nike,Puma,GG and other designer gear.

Exactly.

Unless you're going to allow absolutley anything - including nothing - on the course/in the clubhouse you're creating a dress code.
There has to be one.
Cut out the silly ones and the vast majority will be happy.

Surely you can see the irony - you're already starting your own dress code.

Ah! there now speaks the voice of sense!!

Add to that the fact that the OP, as he says, would obviously wear the one colour jeans (not faded) and any T shirt (no swearing) but within a week someone else will push those bounderies and then everyone wears what they want!

I absolutely cant see his point of formal dress on competition days - why?

Attitudes and posts like this are more likely to put posters off. Congratulations if you feel that your grasp of the English language is better than someone else's. Does that make you feel warm inside and superior or does it just give you a wee kick?

'Codes' evolve, would you really think of wearing something from today 15 years ago (for those older generation)

I'm happy with the selection you can wear now without feeling dressed up in something I don't like ... Can't understand why anyone would feel restricted with today's choices.

You can dress fashionably on a golf course and still look smart. There are plenty of options and I don't see why we should dumb it down.

If a kid wants to play cricket, he wears whites and appropriate shoes. If a kid wants to play football he wears football boots. Why should we change the dress code for golf just cause a few scruff bags want to wear jeans? If you want to introduce more kids to golf, changing the dress code isn't the way to do it.

I like the fact my golf clothes are different to my casual clothes, in fact I have more golf clothes than casual clothes.

lets not forget you are only the person you are from the guidance of your mother & farther
