Golf and number of steps per day.

Why do you walk slower then?

It's a pretty simple concept, if you play a 3 hour round , you are walking most of the time, when not walking you are swinging, you are doing something constantly.
With a 5 hour round the body gets to recover, as you are hanging around more. Far less beneficial to the cardio system.

I'd much rather have 3 hours constant exercise than 5 hours stop start

I normally have my phone in the golf bag on the trolley and then it does not count the steps. Even though I know that and it really should not bother me, I am always a bit miffed, when I come back home after playing 18 holes and my phone informs me: "You have not reached your daily goal of 10,000 steps yet" I always feel like yelling at it: "I have, too, you stupid little twit" :ears:

Keep your phone in a pocket on your person then, and then you won't have to swear at it. Simples! 😀

Actually, not quite as easy as it should be, because for some odd reason, ladies golf wear always comes with too few and too small pockets. Seriously. I don't know who designs that stuff, but I am pretty sure they don't golf themselves (or they normally take a caddy).

I have the Garmin Approach S2 which has the Golf option so with the GPS it also provides steps and other stuff; most of which is nice to have but not really of interest - At 70+ the fact that my HR just ticks over at about 85/90bps during the round and drops to 48bps resting tells me I'm still alive!

I have a fit bit and if I play first thing with not many steps before I normally hit 10,000 steps by the 13th. It buzzes to let me know I have reached 1 0k

I find different devices can measure very differently. My wife has a Garmin for her triathlon training - pricey but seems to be the most accurate I've come across. Quite different to what the iPhone records.

I had a Fitbit for a short while. It often buzzed to tell me that I had reached 10,000 steps whilst I was sat down and simply moving my arm. Going from previous experience of using a pedometer I believe that the Fitbit was over counting steps by around 50%, but I know others who swear by it.

With a pedometer I found the average round of golf was 13-14,000 steps.

I've got a Mistry I think it's called, recorded 16k steps (6.1 miles) yesterday at Worsley Park.

The whites are declared as 6307 yards, although I was zigzagging a bit at times so you could probably add a few more!

Not sure if I can set my steps 🤔

That's a step of only about 50cm!

According to my phone I walked just over 20,000 steps yesterday, which was 18 holes at my old course in the morning and then I went out to play 9 at my home course whilst my other half was out with another of the beginners she started with last summer and one of the lady members

I played yesterday, my phone's step counter says I took 13,882 steps (but that's the whole day, not specifically just golf - most of it will be the golf though since I didn't walk anywhere else). 9.91km. And we took about 3 hours 45 mins to get round.

I'm only 30 but I still feel like it's a good bit of exercise - on a Sunday when you might otherwise just be sat at home. I usually compromise this by feeling like I've earned a good meal afterwards and ordering a curry though.

Blimey, we played last week & our Game Golf App showed 11,490 steps, 4.7 miles & only 780 calories burned
I have a health app on my mobile phone that among other things measures the number of steps I take per day. Yesterday I played in a golf competition and it registered 19,000 steps and a distance walked of 10.4 km after I completed the round. The recommended minimum number of steps per day is 10,000, so playing golf has to be good for your health!
