My favourite club in the bag right now is an old BeCu Ping Eye2+ SW. The feel off this thing is superlative and it's real fun to hit, both on the full and inventing shots around the green. It has 3 miles of offset, a dodgy old grip but I bloody love the thing!

So, I've been perusing eBay and other sites looking at a full set of BeCu Eye2+'s, and am sorely tempted to get a set just to have fun with. I love the look and the SW is so much fun to hit.

Appreciating that the lofts are significantly weak by todays standards, what would I be giving up by playing a set? Has forgiveness moved on a lot in various iterations of Ping irons? Does anyone still play a set of Eye2s?

I have a mint condition Eye 2 sand wedge head up in the attic. At some point it's coming out to play, once I've worked out what to do about the shaft and grip.

There are some Oldies and some Goldies.

If it works then stick with it. A new grip may be in order, especially if its going to be wet. Other than keep enjoying

Be careful with mixing eye 2 and eye 2+. The lofts vary considerably at the wedge end.

I recently switched back to eye 2+ from Nike covert vrs yes I need an extra club on most shots but love the look of the clubs at address and the feel .

I have the eye 2+. 1 iron through to SW.
They will probably be up for sale in the new year. Much as I love them I am looking at jumping ship to some Mizuno JPX EZ irons.

I don't use them any more ........................ but maybe I should, that'd be interesting.

I have JZ shafts in all but the 6 iron, which is not from the set. It's an Eye 2 with a ZZ Lite shaft. It is a lot lighter, but makes absolutely no difference to my strike whatsoever.

The BeCu irons possibly, not steel. It could also be another golfing rumour / myth

They stopped production of the BeCu irons after the 1998 ISI’s, why? The rumors that circulate take on a mythic dimension. Some say the irons were merely too costly to keep producing. Most say the material used was hazardous to work with so Ping and other manufacturers stopped making them. After some research I’ve made two conclusions: 1) Beryllium compounds are toxic in dust or vapor form, which can cause serious lung damage under continued exposure.[3] 2) The EPA classifies beryllium powder as a hazardous waste material under CFR Section 261.33.[4]
Basically, beryllium powder, which ‘dust’ and ‘vapor’ are considered, poses a natural health risk for workers, though in solid form or finished products the compound has no known health risks.[3] I can’t qualify or disqualify claims that Ping and other manufacturers discontinued production of beryllium copper clubs due to legal or legislative pressures regarding health concerns, but I can surmise that that is a logical rational. Equally logical is the possibility that Ping and other manufacturers stopped producing them without legal pressure and simply thought the health risks were too great to justify continued production.
