Today I was lucky enough to get my Ping driver fitting. The very nice guys at Ping invited me up to the Scottish Open at Loch Lomond today where I was looked after by Gordon Niven (Scottish Ping rep) and Liz Savage.

After the initial "glitch" which I believe was the technical term for the Ping computer crash I finally got fitted about 1530hrs, the initial 1100 hours then subsequent 1300 hours fitting had to be cancelled due to this "glitch". In fact poor Gordon took a mouth full of abuse and a few sweary words from an unhappy camper who believed that I had jumped the queue when I was ushered straight into the fitting bay.

Anyway after the warm up and a play with different heads and shafts I along Liz decided on a 10.5 degree G15 driver with a stiff Aldila Serrano shaft and full cord grip.

Stats were 230 carry, 270 with run, 99.9mph average swing speed 2500rpm ball spin.

All that remains to be said is a huge big thanks to everyone at Ping and Mike Harris.

Oh and the Scottish Open was good fun as well. Monty and Els hitting balls at the boat anchored out from the 17th green, Thomas Levet was brilliant with the crowd. Vallegas caddie was either quite funny or a total wideo! Couldn't make up my mind if he was taking the piss out the crowd or quite witty!

Finally the last word has too go to that man Levet. One of his pro-am partners was chopping about on the par 3 17th and rattles his 4th shot about 35 feet past the flag. Levet obviously wishing to spare this hacker any more embarrassment picks up the ball. The man exclaims in astonishment "thats for a net 4" to which Levet just walked away shaking his head. I guess you had to be there but it was brilliant.

Glad you enjoyed your day mate, bet you didn't expect to come away with that spec, did you get to compare it against your own?

I went in with an open mind. However I'm also delighted to now know that my 3 wood shaft is wrong! I always suspected it was a bit soft and I now know it needs to be binned.

G15 would have been my first choice, however I would have liked to try a few of the WRX line of shafts.

Cant complain though it was a great day out.

Smiffy and I are booked in early next month, looking forward to it if only to find out just how slow Smiffy swings a driver! Should we take bets?

:)

Great news Crawford , bout time you guys got round to getting fitted. Hope it all works out well with the G15 , sounds like you had a good day.

Keep us informed of how it performs on the course
