I did enter the Mizuno iron fitting because it seemed such a fantastic opportunity. But thinking about it, having only been on here a short time it would have been unfair if I was selected, so I will wait some time before entering again.

I personally don't get that.
I'd be presumptuous enough to think that GM want a certain profile of golfer.... ie a low or high handicapper/someone that has a certain problem/troubles.
don't forget that the manufacturer will be getting something out of this too.... A good article in a well read and we'll written magazine that will make similar players want to try their gear.
although some may see these GM days/prizes as jollies.... I think that everyone gains from these experiences.

The freebies that GM and vendors give away are a fantastic bonus but honest to God , what I would cherish the most is the experience. It must be wonderful to have access to some of the same expert staff that tend to touring pros and the like. To go on the launch monitors, flight scopes, test a load of different shafts, lofts, lies, etc.
I wont enter everything that gets posted but will try for most of the local ones. I'm fortunate that I live close to a lot of the common venues so if I do get picked one day I wont have too far to travel.

I agree with that, forget the gear, the experiences are ones that I could never get or never afford and that is a massive part of the attraction.

Indeed they do, and so would I. Having only recently started playing again after 20 years I am using borrowed clubs, so I need new ones. But I thought it would be unfair to win a fitting in front of folk who had been posting here for a long time.

Although I don't get why the manufactures are setting up fitting opportunities in Feb/March in the pee'ing rain and -245 wind chill when a couple of (insert brand) bods can grab Mike etc and jump on a plane over here with a laptop/handycam & some golf bags stuffed with goodies

Choose where I feel I need to improve, my irons and wedges are the best part of my bag so I did not enter the Srixon / Mizzy opportunity. I do however feel I need to improve my driving or woods and am not happy with my driver so I did enter the Adams one a while ago and the Callaway one currently.
If a putting one were to come up I would be likely to try for that.

I enter if I feel its something that would help my game or an experience that I would enjoy. The whole experience of the TM fitting was fantastic and I learned loads about stuff that I had no clue of before I went. I learned more about my swing and golf in general so it was a massive win-win for me.
The free driver was brilliant of course and would I lie about it just because I got it free? No. If I hit the SLDR close to the middle and my old driver close to the middle it goes further end of story. The results I actually gathered at my home course in the cold weather were better than on the launch monitor at the fitting as well. That could be down to any number of reasons though.

I'll answer that one as i think i am qualified to.
Last year, i won an opportunity to go to wentworth and get fitted for Taylormade clubs. I walked away with driver, hybrids and irons, balls, shoes. I was already playing TM gear, so i liked their kit. But fundamentally what i got fitted for was much better than what i had, the figures don't lie. You are right, i now feel i have an "affinity" if you will with TM, of course i do, they gave me over £1000 worth of golf gear! thats why they did it, PR. A great article for the mag, online presence and 4 very happy "customers" that are almost now brand advocates or ambassadors..
I am a tinkerer, i have since tried plenty of other irons for example, and none of them have been better than my current set.
Someone else mentioned the experience, that really was money cant buy. well it could, but its money i dont have or would want to spend! A round on the west course at wentworth is £360, £20 a hole! i would never ever pay that, the fitting could be paid for, again £200 odd quid. Meeting 3 new forumites, POH and NT, the TM team, the wentworth guys, Priceless.
So yes, my opinion has been influenced, by a fantastic experience and great clubs!

I've only put my name forward for the TM fitting as my driving is woeful. Regarding the other equipment experiences, whilst they would no doubt be excellent, I'm pretty happy with my current setup so I thought it better to bow out and give others the opportunity.
However, all bets are off when it comes to:
1. Anything Adams related. And I mean anything.
2. Trips to renowned locations such as The Kingdom or The Oven.

If you read my posts in the TM thread, you'll see that my feedback of the experience and of the product is balanced. Yes it was a great opportunity and a great experience, but I'm not going to lie if I think certain elements of the process could have been improved or if the product has flaws.

Hoping my time will come, preferably with a Scottish engagement, and even more so for Wilson Staff as for some inexplicable reason, I have a real soft spot there.

I have entered all the comps that I think will benefit my game. Distance doesn't even come into it for me as these are fantastic opportunities and worth travelling for imo. I also entered every day of the advent calendar as well.
I entered the Benross woods and the Mizuno irons as I felt both would really help my game and I was prepared to travel down to the south coast for fitted clubs that would have helped my game. Cost down to the south coast £70-80 and a night accommodation for a fully fitted set of woods was a no brainer but to find out they also got a set of irons as well just made it even better.
I cant think of any other places were I have seen so many fantastic opportunities to get some fantastic equipment for little cost and yet there are still some moaners on here about location or what month the prizes are offered. Unreal really and I hope it doesn't put GM off or any of the suppliers that give up the time and give away free equipment for very little reward.
