GM Forum Championships 2016?

only trouble with a one day event is if you are having to travel a reasonable distance, its a very long day and you probably would need to stay over so if you are staying over it makes sense to make the most of it and play again the next day.

Thats a good point to be fair. Just me being selfish since I love 45 mins from Alwoodley and about 1hr 30mins from the Belfry :)

If everyone is happy I'll start tentative enquiries and look at dates, formats etc.

Here's me saying I wouldn't get involved again ffs

PM me if you want a hand with anything Martin, I've got the time bud.

I like the central venue idea over a couple of days. Not particularly because of finding a forum champion, but just because these meets are awesome!

Just my 2¢ worth...

I don't think the 2 courses don't necessarily need to be neighbours. If it's a 2 day job I wouldn't have thought an hour or so drive after the first game would be too objectionable to most people, provided it's not north or south taking people much further away from home.

Ganton is 1.5hrs which I could live with, but Fulford (ex host of the B&H where Langer played out of a tree) is only about 35 minutes away.

I'm not going to get involved with negotiating any deals - because I'm garbage at it - but I'd be more than willing to help out with the forum based stuff.

I would like to put my name down for this too.

Just a thought but why does it have to be a 18 or 36 hole event? Can it be both so those who can only make the 1 day , play for a 18 hole prize. The rest play in the 36 hole comp?

My thought on 36 holes was that previously to be too dog you had to win 2 events, the regional then the final hence why the thought process is 36 holes

At the end of the day it's to find the "best" golfer of the year, think of it like an open championship weekend.

It's a fair point Gary to be fair, something to consider but given many may travel for 3 hours plus on day one it would be better IMO to keep further travel at a minimum if possible.

Moor town is a former Ryder Cup venue also so another nice to tick of course for many who like this sort of thing

I think that this thread is already showing the problems that organisers face when trying to get this type of thing off the ground. Some people wanting 1 day, some wanting 2. Some wanting certain locations and some wanting others. I like Virtuocity's idea of an organiser saying right this is what is happening and it will be at this course on this date or these dates. Who wants to come?

My only question would be what would differentiate this from a normal forum meet that would make it a GM Forum Championship? Why would this be the Forum Championship as opposed to the Trump/Carnoustie meet or any of the others that go on throughout the year?

Maybe too late, as Leeds looks like the favourite in most peoples eyes.

How about Cumbria as a venue. Silloth and another.

It would be good to throw a bit of revenue into an area thats been devastated the last few months. 40/50/60 people spending at least a couple of hundred im sure would go down well.

Here endeth my input. Other than the fact of dates depending, I'll turn up wherever

Best of luck

We had a meet there a few years ago, weather was atrocious so it would be nice to go back some time when the wind isn't howling. Bit too far for the southern poofs but I'd certainly be up for a game there again.

This was eventually, a successful event thanks to Virtuocity the 1st year then Val the 2nd, not forgetting all the regional organisers too.
All the rules and formats are in place, they've already been discussed, debated , agreed, tried and test . See post 41.

There's nothing wrong with people expressing opinions before the event is set in stone, it gives the organiser(s) a bit more food for thought when they're planning it.

What you don't want (but will still get) is every man and his dog saying it would've been better doing xyz after its all been decided upon.

We'll see , best of luck .

I'd be happy to help organise and be part of small team to get this rolling, I don't think 1 person could undertake it all, I have plenty of time to make calls etc, the biggest thing will be a 2-day date and in what month, as always that will be the first hurdle.

Whoever picks up the baton, I dont mind contacting Alwoodley to ask for a deal, as I struck up a rapport with the secretary when I organised a meet for 30 odd there last year.

If required, of course.

Nothing for Moortown, but have also had chats with the sec at Ganton also, on a few occasions, if that was preferred.

The geography argument always takes up 60% of the posts on this, why dont we do the following:-

2016 - Yorkshire
2017 - Scotland
2018 - central, Southern England
2019 - North west England
2020 - Midlands

This also needs a small committee of say 4-5 people, as Fish says. I've no interest sitting on it this year, but can make the calls to the above courses, if so desired.

Saves all the arguing then.

It would be because that's what it would be called and hopefully with a format that suits such a meet.
