Glasses

I have terrible eyes and to be honest don't want to be putting contacts in (hate fiddling with my eyes even to get an eyelash out). Worn glasses most of my adult life so second nature but a right royal pain when playing in the rain even with a cap on.

Played last week in a slightly humid drizzle. My glasses were a right royal pain in the behind. When they weren't covered in drizzle on the outside, they were steamed up on the inside!

I need varifocals for normal life, but use a pair of "transitions" glasses/sunglasses in my distance prescription when I'm paying golf.

I had to start wearing varifocals about 15 years ago. First noticed it when I could still see the ball on the green 300 yards away but couldn't read the scorecard properly.
Only problem with them was that the "transition line" on them affected my putting.
Only way around it was to get another pair made with slightly deeper lenses so that the line was effectively higher. These work a treat and are permanently in my bag.
Tried contacts, could not get on with them.
As others have mentioned, rain effectively stops play.

I started wearing glasses for reading , VDU work about 5 years ago.

I recently had an eye test and got fitted for reading glasses and another set for watching TV and driving.

My long sight is actually still OK. I can see a golf ball 200 yards away but I can't read the phone display in my hand without glasses.

Glasses are a real pain to use especially if your reading glasses look the same as your other glasses! Forever picking up the wrong ones and misplacing them.

One day when things have settled down I will consider having laser treatment.

I try to avoid using my reading glasses just before golf in the morning because it does take a while to adjust after take them off. The ball at address is the main problem especially on the first tee🙂

Contact lens, I've worn them since I was 18, 30 odd years now, blind as a bat without them in, can't read the top line of the test chart in the opticians. The lens I have are 90% water, my eyes are healthy, just had the 6 month check up.

I wear mine from get up to bed time and I'm on a PC all day with work.

Ah ah Dave, that explains your trousers at last years Forrest Pines meet. :D

Some very interesting comments, thank you all.

I'm going to make an appointment and see what is advised.

I wasn't on my pc or phone early this morning and my long sight was perfect all day. I think my reading glasses may need altering but I also think I'm wearing them far too long and causing eye strain which takes ages to adjust.

See what the optition quack says.

I had to start wearing glasses for reading 10-15 years ago, then I started needing them for long distance too, I had bifocals which were a pain to get used to at first but now are no problem. I Still don't use them for golf though, maybe if I did I would be able to see slopes on greens better.

For those with a glasses steaming issue up but cant wear contacts or allowed laser surgery like me, there are tricks to stop that that I picked up as a glasses wearing skier - put shampoo on the lenses and let it dry overnight, rub it off next morning with a soft cloth - glasses wont steam up even when wet or you are hot. Works.
Re rain you can get caps for golf with long brims or even bucket hats that will stop rain getting to glasses.

I'm at that age where I need them for distance but not for close up so trying to read or see anything around 50cm away is a pain as that's the crossover point. End up with them balanced atop my head then I forget and they fall off. Not good.

Cheers - will definitely try the shampoo trick
