I'm starting to really struggle with eyes!

I gave in to having reading glasses about 4 years ago. Initially it was because I was struggling when out with menus but then it became a little more concerning not being able to read anything on the TV screen.

So now I'm 4 odd years down the road and I'm using my reading glasses more and more, in fact, with early rising (4am) doing quotes and emails on my PC along with being on here, then constantly on my phone all day, as I am now, when I take them off everything is massively out of focus!!

Just took Max for a walk after being on my phone most of the day due to the weather and being indoors and everyone had 2 heads and everything was seriously blurred, more than I've ever experienced before.

I have noticed I've also struggled at first when going to the golf club, been on the computer a couple of hours then 5 minutes to the club then everything is a little blurred for the first few holes.

Anyone else been through this, and if so, what happened next?

2 sets of glasses?

Bifocals or varifocals, I've heard of both but know nothing about them.

Am I destined to wearing glasses all the time, even on the course 😟

Best ask an optician. However, I asked the same question during a visit earlier this year. No was the answer. If you can focus after a short while of being away from the phone, computer then it's just old age so I was told. Your lenses stiffen as you get older, only thing that does, and it takes them longer to get going again after you walk away from the screen.

Takes me about 10 mins after I leave the house on a morning to be able to focus on number plates when in traffic.

I had my eyes lasered about 15 years' ago. It was money well spent.

Before lasering I needed glasses for driving and reading. Now I do not need glasses for driving and can read a little in bright light but normally use glasses. Before I could not read what it said on the beer pump in the pub without glasses.

It was quite painful but expect things have moved forward now

Ive worn glasses for getting on 30 years now for distance and it doesn't bother me, though it can be a pain playing golf in the rain. My eyes are getting worse and have started noticing i need to take them off to read something now and again. had my eyes tested a few weeks ago and was recommended varifocals, or carry on taking my specs of to see things close up. I chose the later.

Get yourself contact lens. Even if you're a bit squeamish, you'll soon get over it and it's worth the effort.

Ive worn specs since i was 10 and been on varifocals for the last 8 years

The only problem I have found with Golf is that at address, to keep the ball in focus your chin is well tucked in, this means that during the swing your chin gets in the way of the shoulder turn.

so I try to ensure that the ball is at the very bottom of the lens, chin up as far as it can go and swing.

You can get golf specs with a deeper lens, like the reverse of Dennis Taylor's ones (Snooker player) but they do look a bit stoopid

I have worn glasses for a while, and have used contacts previously, both for distance, but as my short distance vision also started to deteriorate I switched to varifocals. However, for golf I still have a single vision pair as like Phil pointed out, varifocals can interfere with your swing.

Rain is a pain but unfortunately if I used contacts i would now also need reading glasses to complete my scorecard, so sort of defeats the object.

Been wearing varifocals for over 10 years now . First had them in NZ and had them with the transition lens, ie darken in the sun. Down side of this is due to the technology used they also go dark in cold weather.
Been feeling for a while now I'm not picking up the borrows on the greens as I'm permanently in the dark so to speak so ordered a new pair in clear lenses from " you know where " and used them yesterday for the first time playing golf . Took a couple of holes to get used to them but on first impressions very pleased,

I have glasses for distance. I sometimes wear them for golf but more often than not don't.

It's nice to be able to see tee shots land, but a pain to take them off for the scorecard and also don't like putting with them on.

I wear varifocal glasses for general day-to-day - and distance contact lenses for golf and when I want to look cool and trendy :)

I can't get used to wearing my glasses when playing as I wore contact lenses full time for 30yrs.

I had my eyes tested recently after 4 years.
I needed slightly stronger reading glasses but my distance sight had actually improved to a level that I was told that I did not need glasses for driving....weird.

My wife always had to wear glasses for reading and driving, she tried laser treatment but it only lasted for about 2 years and it slightly damaged her left eye .
She the went for a multi vision operation and fitted with 2 prescription lenses, a very quick and painless operation.
Much the same op as removing cataracts, cost £5000 , well worth it .

I wore glasses full time from about 24 years old. I really struggled in the mid 50's when I needed bifocals as it affected my vision for golf so I had laser vision treatment and enjoyed perfect vision until a year ago when I developed a retinal detachment. After emergency surgery I was ok'ish but was told that id develop a cataract as a result. I did, and had it fixed in December but developed a swelling at the back of the eye which has taken 6 months to improve and my right eye vision is nowhere as good as the left

My consultant says that I've had a massive amount of surgery on a small eyeball and am probably lucky with the result - a long story but a short message " look after your eyes and be careful what you do to them"

I wear mono vision contact lenses. Right eye corrected for distance, left eye with no correction. So my brain works out which eye to use for what. It works well but doesn't work with glasses unfortunately as needs to be on the surface of the eye. Otherwise when my lens is out I wear single vision glasses and take them off to do close work like this message!

I got contacts last year for golf but just have them for distance. Tried the mono vision option and it wasn't happening.

If you are on a computer a lot then get a pair fitted with intermediate vision lenses and not ordinary reading glasses (you need an optician to give you the ADD when having an eye test).

I have only just started to wear distance vision glasses on a near permanent basis and have found that I prefer bifocal to varifocal and a aviator style glasses for golf.

I once tried a contact lens in just my 'bad' eye. It took me until the 12th hole to make me realise it made every putt look like a right to left putt.

At least with contact lenses you can often find opticians that will give you a free trial period as they are an 'off the shelf' product.

First get your eyes tested. ASAP.
then you can decide what to do
ask the optician for his opinion on your dilemma and he will be best qualified to answer your questions.
look after your eyes you only have one pair.

Ditto, best thing I've ever done. The freedom it gave me is priceless.
