My mate is organising his annual golf day for the summer.

We need a course which isn't too difficult but is nice enough within a quick drive from Glasgow City Centre. £50 maximum for round, roll and lunch.

Got to be a Saturday (which is obviously a big stumbling block).

Can anyone suggest somewhere that they know fulfils the above criteria?

Mar hall might , StevieR will ken. Greenburn GC Fauldhouse do have a visitors slot on Saturdays ,nice course too in the summer [if we get one]

I've played the Westerwood at Cumbernauld a few times. About 10 miles out of Glasgow but from what I can remember you should be able to fulfill your criteria.

You could try the Carrick. Might be worth taking out a de Vere membership between you and you could also use near where you live. Sometimes you get comps etc

Gleddoch would be fine on a Saturday, if its a medal day then you would probably still get on from about 2 pm. There will probably be some sort of group on deal for a round and a bite to eat. If you decide on the Gleddoch then give me a shout regarding diary events/ suitable days, our fixture diary is out next week. In terms of playability it is totally in the lap of the weather gods.

Greenfees for Mar Hall next summer are £199 for a 4 ball. Saturdays are unlikely to be a problem as they only have around 90 members anyway. Course is massively underused so is generally in superb condition. They have a little Italian restaurant called Il Posto next to the 18th green which is quite reasonable.

My first membership was at East Renfrewshire GC - a really tricky and interesting (if not too long) James Braid designed course that used to be called 'the Gleneagles of the south' (so you already have an idea of what it's like) 500ft up on edge of moorland with fantastic views over Glasgow to the highlands. Easy to get to with the M77 - but a Saturday might be tricky - but who knows.

Saturdays not allowed.

I was at Greenburn yesterday, it was an absolute swamp.

What about Hilton Park? They've two quite decent courses so you should be able to get on one of them on a Saturday.

There is always Deaconsbank GC :) A little municipal club out Thornliebank way where you meet nice old guys with interesting ideas on etiquette. Some (well at least one) here learned some interesting lessons around that little track :)

Truth is it's short but OK and not back condition for a muni - and the sort of place to go if you are a bit stuck for getting on a private club. It's also James Braid designed.

I wonder if the clubhouse has been rebuilt following being burnt down by the local neds? Given the quantity and quality of golf courses around Glasgow I certainly wouldn't be putting Rouken Glen near the top of my list.
