Over the last few months I'd lost interest a bit in golf. Hardly been on here, missing games for a few weeks at a time, etc.

It's never bothered me before but the weather's really got to me this winter.

Sunday just gone I played and even managed to play in short sleeves for about an hour of it before the wind got to my poorly insulated bones and on went the top.

I was rubbish but I really enjoyed being out there again. In the last week or so I've got a new driver shaft and then a new set of wedges (changing lofts), and now I can't wait to play again. Thinking about Woodhall in April has helped too.

I was worried for a while I wasn't going to get the bug back, but I think it's here. Bring it on!!

Good to hear sir. I think this weather has got to a lot of folk. It will be totally different when the clocks change and spring is in the air and the smell of freshly mowed fairways hits the nostrils.

Haven't been on the course since December 14th. Not missed it as I've enjoyed working on my game at the range and trying to improve the short game. With the course gully open again (it better stay that way until Saturday) I'm really looking forward to seeing how the hard work pans out. Glad you've got your mojo back

I was only saying on Sunday I had not seen you on here much.
I thought you had gone and got a life.
Nevermind good to have you back.
The forums a better place when Region3 is on it.

welcome back G ! I was wondering why you were so quiet! winter can be a drag!

what were you old and now new wedge lofts out of interest!

Thanks chaps. I probably won't be on as much as before as I'm a bit busier at work now. I can take a wild stab in the dark the sort of things I've missed ;)

Going from 52/56/60 to 50/54/58. With a 46 degree PW I finally got fed up with the big yardage gap to my 52.
Even if it doesn't help my game the retail therapy was good for me. :)

Anyone looking for wedges take a look at the Cobra Tour Trusty. I've not hit one yet but they feel a nice weight and really look nice behind the ball IMO.

cool. I don't think I could let go of my 52/56/60 set up. I am just too comfortable with it now!

I feel the same Gary. Cleared the attic out last week and found 400 balls up there (old pick-ups) and took them to the club for people to use on the practice ground. Told the pro I probably won't be joining again this year however not to cross me off the list just in case the sun comes out in the next 2 months and I suddenly decide I want to try and get to scratch

Good to have you back on

I had actually thought I have played more golf this winter than usual because of the mild winter. I know some haven't been so lucky but the east mids hasn't had as much rain as the south.

I tried to play, and have had 3 games since the New Year. All of which were washouts, in terrible conditions both in the air and under-foot. So after a battle last month I decided to stop playing until the ground and weather clear up. Looks like this week isn't too wet, fingers crossed I'll be back out soon!

It's not been the rain that got to me, it was the cold. I had 2 thoroughly miserable weekends in a row where I was either freezing or couldn't swing due to too many layers, and I just didn't enjoy being out at all. Didn't play (and wasn't interested in playing) for about 3 weeks.

It's weird because previous years it's not bothered me. Seriously considering packing up when it gets cold again next winter and not playing again until late Feb/Mar.

Good to have you back Gary , good to hear you have your "itch" back aswell , the golf one that is :D
as you prob guessed you havent missed much new stuff ,

ive been lucky as ive been playing all winter kinda thinking of taking a week or two away from the course before the qualifiers start , mind you i keep saying that until the weekend and then i play anyhow ,

i dropped my 52 out and put in a 54 , leaves a gap from the PW but will accept that because i want to keep the 64 lob in there , but after a bit of tinkering i think i have the right blend now .

Thermals are the answer to the cold mate , ive played in long sleeve thermal, t shirt and jumper most of the winter ,

even with all the bad weather in Liverpool we have managed at least one decent day over the weekends. only once did we get completely washed out!

bladedplayer - I take it you use the 64 quite often then? what do you use it for? what is you next wedge? would a 60 not do the same trick?

I went to my club at weekend just to have a walk on the course. I wanted to see how the course was (utterly sodden - and still is). But I was a little surprised how much I felt I missed being out there. I was a bit worried I wasn't missing it enough - given the amount of money I pay for my golf.

Same here, weather has been diabolical and I have gotten out when I can but really dont care about the scores at the moment, it is purely exercise for me. Like you though, as soon as the sun starts getting higher in the sky, it'll be game on again. :)

I find it excellent in greenside bunkers mate , i cant play that shot you were talking about earlier (run the 8/9 iron) our place gets firm in the summer so i throw it high quiet often .. i even think my set up at the min is a bit strange
AP2 PW is about 46 * so now its 46/54/58/64 , that just seems to suit my game at present ..
Never hit a 60* mate . might have a go with one and see

that running shot was one of my weak spots so I did a bit of work on it last summer. the old boys are usually a dab hand at it. im still more accurate flying it a decent way to the hole.

the 58 is all honesty isn't that different from a 60. I made the mistake when I first bought "extra wedges" of buying a 64. I used it for months for all kinds of shots around the green. I then decided to try a 60 and it was even easier. once you have got used to playing chip shots with a 64, using less loft seems like child's play. lol

it got so baked over here last summer I put the 64 in for a week or two. throwing it up in the air was the only way to hold the unturned bowl greens.
