G15 arrived yesterday....

I had an I15 out today with a stiff haft and it is laughably whippy. The head is fantastic and suits the colour but the shaft is rubbish. Myself and two other single figure handicappers tried it and every single shot went right and bigtime. Horrible horrible shaft. I was also ooking at a comp headed titleist and a g10. Might hold out for the nike VR's and have a nosey at them too.

Thats right the Ping shaft is rubbish because you cant hit it, must be the shaft :o? Incidently which rubbish shaft was it you tried? Was it the Ping TFC 700 or the UST Avixcore Tour Red69? Both obviously rubbish shafts right enough.

Instead of comming on and spouting ill informed p15h why not try an X-stiff.

This made me smile :)

"Suits the colour" What does that mean exactly?

Obviously, all shafts are rubbish then. Cause I can't hit any of them any good :D

Haha the Ping-heads bite back!

First off, the proshop only had the stiff, the assistant pro, myself and his brother all took it out seperately and came in with the same conclusions.
The black head and black face on it looks fantastic, very inviting and a little deeper than my mp600. It was indeed the tfc700 stiff. I recommend you actually get your hands one and try it, We compared my fujikura 350 stiff, this and a v2 and the ping was noticeably more flexible. Even one older guy who happened to call into the shop had a look at it as he hadnt heard of it, compared it to the g10 with stiff shaft and he said it was more like his callaway regular.

That said, I wouldnt rule the i15 out completely as Im a sucker for looks as well as function and might order one with a different shaft if the g10 or nike vr comes to nothing. For what its worth, I was hitting the mizuno fine before and after so I wasnt having an off day.

Jeez you pair are too defensive, do you have shares in Ping?

Wasn't the Titleist 909 a rubbish driver because you couldn't hit it? :D :D

No, my issue with the Tit was the tit who fitted me with a shaft and head combination that actually worked against each other. I also couldnt hit the Tit consistantly out the centre of the bat and the Tit needs to be buttoned or it doesnt go.

Anyway back to the Ping. The stock Ping shaft is very "torquey" thinks its about 4 if my memory is correct (cant be arsed checking at this time)which is quite alot for a stiff shaft. You should try the Avixcore its a lower launching and stiffer shaft.

Well, despite me playing like a drain on the back 9, the G15 was working really well straight from the start. Great distance with it and only fluffed up a couple of shots due to my swing being a bit erractic courtesy of a bout of "tennis elbow" a couple of weeks ago. Not getting through the ball properly, especially with my irons as I am frightened of jarring my arm again. Highwoods is very dry at the moment and the ground is rock hard in places. Not brilliant when you are carrying an injury, however slight.
Me and my playing partner had 22 points on our "front" 9, (we teed off at the 10th), which certainly put us in the running for a podium finish, but collapsed a little on the back 9 and only came in with 16 points giving us a 38 point total. 43 points won it, with 3 pairs on 42 points to tie for second spot.
But as far as the new driver is concerned I am well chuffed. Certainly have a lot more confidence with it on the tee compared to my Benny, and two drives in particular stand out as slightly better than I would have hit with the old G10. The second hole at our club is a longish par 4 (423 yards SI2) with out of bounds down the right and trees on the left ready to gobble up your misplaced drive. You have to be fairly accurate!! I bombed one straight down the middle and left myself a 9 iron in. And on our 15th (439yd SI 1 par 4 all uphill) I hit my best ever drive up there. Shame I couldn't take advantage of it, as I duffed my second shot and walked off with a bogey.
So all in all I am well pleased with my purchase. A lot of confidence at address (which is what I was after) and the Prolaunch shaft does exactly what it says on the tin and keeps the ball down to my liking.
Things can only get better once I start hitting through the ball properly again.

Maybe it's because the head sits slightly open, Brendy, that you managed to hit everything right!!! ;)
