Remember the opening scene from that film?

Picture the scene:

All booked in for an East Riding Alliance meeting at Brough Golf Club on Thursday morning. Tee off time 8:32am. I'd arranged with my partner that he'd come over to my place, have some breakfast and then we'd hit the practice ground for 7:15am.

I'd copped a load of flak off HID as she's off this week and wanted to spend Thursday with me. I took the stick and told her I was playing. As a compromise, we'd arranged to have lunch today with her folks.

Phone rings this morning. It's the Pro from my club.

"Where are you?"

"At home."

"Why aren't you at Brough?"

"We're playing there tomorrow."

"No, you tw*t, it's today. Get there now."

Cue scene from Four Weddings.

Trying to get hold of my partner, him cancelling various appointments. HID not talking to me at all. Haring down to the course, to be told to get on the tee immediately, you're off now.

No time for a practice swing, no time for a chip and a putt. Straight off.

Nightmare.

*chuckle*

I walked the dog down the lane across the course at lunchtime today, and it was packed with activity......and I thought to myself
'I wonder how Henry is finding it.......sure he said it was Thursday "

Little did I know........lol

So....how did you do ? ;)

Yes but how did you score?

Surprisingly well, given the circumstances. Knocked it round in 9 over which included back to back birdies at 9 and 10 and not one, but two sand saves.

Given that my home course has about 8 bunkers on it, I'm not very confident playing out of the sand as I don't get much practice!

Good going on the sand saves, for me there is nothing better in golf than getting down in 2 from a greenside bunker, I think I'm a decent bunker player and I really enjoy that challenge.....especially out of fluffy seaside sand! :)

I remember playing at Wokefield for the first time and struggling to find it (in the days before Sat Nav). HID was doing 100mph along the entrance road and I was tying the shoes up as I was due off in 4 minutes. Handed the bloke in the pro shop a wedge of notes and didn't even check the change as HID got the clubs out the boot. Grabbed the bag and ran all the way to the tee as our first guy was playing. Two practice swings and thinned it about 180 yards, second was short and chipped and putted for par.

+9 at Brough is some going for someone who doesnt play it regularly, I can tell thee !
Thats a Nett 65, and as it was an East Riding Alliance, should bring you down to 11.1 ? Good result !

Oh, and a Birdie on the 10th is a helluva feat......stoke index 1 on the course, and a hard Par4 of 440yds.....well done !

I'm happy for you to take the lead when we play it in our matches bro' !
:D

I was very chuffed with the birdie on 10. Nice drive, then a 3 iron from 200 yards to about 15 foot and in it went.

It's all downhill from here, Chris. You'll be carrying me! :D

It was a betterball so no cut. But a medal on Saturday so.....

Up 0.1, probably! :(

You did used to have short game then Homer?

I hate getting to the course late it really stresses me out especially as our first is up a right bloody hill so I am knackered before I start.

Not sure which shows more bottle? Getting your head together and scoring that well or telling the Mrs I'm playing! ......

hmm 2nd thoughts, it's telling the Mrs! :D

Seriously well played though Henry :)

Definitely telling the Mrs. Never mind Bob Rotella. After telling the Mrs that you're playing on her day off, first tee nerves are a thing of the past. :D
