Forward Thinking Reciprocal Agreement

I'm wondering if there's a similar arrangement on the go in the Glasgow/Paisley area.I do remember 4/5 yrs ago going to play East Renf. on a Sunday a.m.when there was something on at Fereneze and it didn't cost a penny(played really well there too)

I think 'courtesies' such as you describe are pretty common - where clubs in the locality to one hosting an Open comp - and therefore closed to members - offer courtesy rounds free to members of the club. Clearly though the number of courtesies a club offers at any one time is limited.

And we have reciprocal arrangements with about a dozen clubs within about an hours drive of home. These clubs again offer limited but free rounds - and not linked to any comp at my own club. We just have to ask our sec to contact the club we wish to play and the day we'd like to play - and the host club tells of tee times available that day for us. I don't use this enough, Free golf at different courses.

Same here, though we don't have so many, but the ones we do have are good courses. Ferndown, Brokenhurst, Stoneham, Ham Manor, West Byfleet. We also get reduced rates at Hayling.

I make up a 4 ball and take advantage of at least one course a year. Ferndown is the best course, and is a saving of £70 on a normal green fee. Nice little perk of membership. I understand that a lot of members of the reciprocal clubs come to us, but according to our secretary very few of our members go the other way.

Checked - we have 8 - not 12

Brokenhurst Manor, East Berkshire, Ham Manor, Littlehampton, Stoneham, Maidenhead, Salisbury & South Wilts, Tylney Park

And I think we are same that more members of these clubs play us than the other way around. Must get out more. Don't know the clubs but they all look nice tracks.

Wow! Impressive!!

Saw one advertised up beside me,where if your a member at Ballumbie Castle your a member at Forfar as well, so 2 courses for 1 set of fee's.
We've started one with Glenbervie where 2 times are available per day to go and play for nowt and we can take guests who pay the members guest rate, but 2 weeks after this was sorted they started there winter program where as my course is playable all year so has only benefitted them to be honest so far.

We have 8/9 reciprocal arrangements, only for playing a set number of tee slots per week ... not sure if some are gettin gconfused and lumping the full member status with these type of arrangements, we certainly can't play comps under our arrangements.

Certainly many courses have reciprocal arrangements whereby you can play another course at a reduced rate, my club included. This was the first that I had heard of where members of one club have full membership rights at another. It just seemed to make sense to me especially as I know 2 clubs locally where such a scheme would be prefect (at least it would for me anyway).

I suggested pretty much the same thing to the GM at my previous club with a links course a couple of hours away but he pretty much dismissed the idea without even looking into it. The course is a heathland so it would have given both sets of members the opportunity to play a different type of course but because of the distance, it would have meant that one club wasn't swamped by the other members all the time. I saw it as a win/win but the GM at my old place likes to do it all his own way.

Most 'older' courses are so stuck in the past its unbelievable.

Great for the golfer, just can't see how the clubs get much back from it. They would have to be very similar (in terms of pricing, and membership) for it to be viable, and would also have to similar in course characteristics too, as if one club had much better greens (for instance) then they would get the majority of the traffic (and hence bar profits) ... there must be some idea of profit sharing between the two for it to be fair to both clubs. Maybe they have agreed to split the membership fees between the clubs, or something like that.

Take the two courses that I have been a member of, Belton Park and Stoke Rochford. About 10 miles apart, both good, mid range courses in good condition that charge pretty much the same membership, attract similar people and have a similar membership. Only real difference is that Belton has 27 holes as opposed to 18. An agreement like this would be perfect hear and could attract members to both clubs as well as deter a few nomads.

2 courses for the price of one would certainly be a draw to new members I would think.

Also a good way for both courses to sell themselves to potential visitors and societies. Lincolnshire is by no means at the top of the list so being able to sell a 2 course golf day/break would be a big benefit.
