FM19 any one got the game today?

It's winter, dark nights, so a time I tend to spend more time on the PC, so FM19 is out time to remember how to play.

No, the last one I had was FM17 I think. I took over at Roma and Salah was there, was absolutely bloody phenomenal. Next year in real life he went to Liverpool and really was phenomenal. I find when I get FM games I'm really intensely into them for about 2 months, then I get annoyed with it and never play it again. Until three or four years later when I fancy it again.

Nothing will ever top Championship Manager 01/02. :D

I now have it but not sure when I'll play it as I'm currently battling my way through the commonwealth in Fallout 4.
I haven't found my son yet!

Had it since beta release.

Took a year off and there seem to be some improved ai in regards to tactics. Still seems a little easy though, as always. Buy a few Eastern European or South American gems and get towards top of table.

Not won it yet, but 4 years in and I’ve got a league cup and Europa cup in the cabinet which is a tad unrealistic for Saints.

.......................and if you're like me, never sign an African.

FM19 is the best game SI have made in a long, long time. It's superb.

I have a decent save going as Serie C side AlbinoLeffe where I'm sat in the Playoff spots after just over half a season. Have built an affinity for the plucky Italians. They've never been higher than Serie B and apart from half a season where they led Serie B before capitulating in the mid 2000s have never come close to Serie A football. I ran a save with them on last years game because they had the best youth facilities and youth recruitment of any team in Serie C, and after 5 seasons we were a solid Serie A side but couldn't quite get them to the next level and compete with the big boys. Hoping to change that this year.

It's a tough challenge though, despite having a 20,000+ seater stadium they have one of the lowest average attendances in Italy and have broken records in Italian football for the lowest average attendance (our average attendance this season for example is 1,221 - or 4% capacity with 0 sell-outs), so money is incredibly tight. The starting squad is okay, and there are some talented players in the squad like:

  • goalkeeper Simone Cortinovis who on last years game was still my #1 in Serie A
  • Fabio Gavazzi the club captain. An AlbinoLeffe legend, he started his career with the Celeste before leaving for 7 seasons only to return in 2016. Again, he was still a rock in my defence up into Serie A
  • Juri Gonzi - talented and well-rounded winger who unfortunately had better attributes in FM18 but is a more than servicable right winger in FM19
  • Marco Nichetti - made his AlbinoLeffe debut when he was 17, Nichetti is a talented and combative defensive midfielder who is more than good enough to be a quality Serie B midfielder
  • Daniel Kouko - A well rounded striker who leads the line for the blues, not the best finisher but his lowest attribute is a 10 so he really could play anywhere, a more than serviceable Serie C striker
  • Mario Ravasio - The latest star from the Youth Academy - 20 year old Ravasio has the potential to be a very good Serie B striker in the future, if not better than that, he made his AL debut at age 16 and will fight Kouko tooth and nail for the starting striker spot
With a solid base for a squad established I bolstered things where I could bringing in experienced campaigners Mattia Cassani and Leo Di Cegile in on frees before bringing in talented young winger Andrea Di Grazia in on loan.

It's been a solid start. We're utilising an attacking gegenpress style which is solid-ish in defence and extremely quick in transition, a lot of our goals come from our own half on the counter with balls over the top to Kouko or Ravasio. We've been a little suspect defensively, not helped by a spate of injuries, but hopefully once the style beds in we'll begin to get the best out of the line-up. After 26 Serie C games we're 4th in the league but just 3 points behind leaders Ternana. I wasn't expecting instant promotion if I'm honest, I would take a solid playoff position and a bigger push for promotion in our 2nd campaign but you never know, if we find some form it's that close at the top we could very easily win the league. If you want a decent lower-league challenge then I'd definitely give AlbinoLeffe or Serie C in general a look, a very fun league to manage in.

I hear what you're saying, but the problem I've always had with a lower league team is keeping hold of decent talent, especially youngsters.
Apart from small stadia, lower league teams suffer from having a very poor reputation and low wage budgets.
Having unearthed one or two wonderkids, keeping hold of them is nigh on impossible!
However, it's a much better challenge than managing a top club.

Currently coming to the end of my first season in charge of lower Portuguese side Vilafranquense.
Know what you mean about keeping the good young talent as I've lost a couple of hot prospects to higher division teams. Hopefully winning the leaguer I'm in might help. Currently on a long winning streak, top of the league and 8 points clear.

One of my lucky goals

I’m still playing FM14, I had always been someone who got bored after 3 or 4 seasons, but currently in I think season 40 or something like that.

Started with Southampton as they had a load of good youngsters. Unearthered some great young players to build a squad that became the most successful in world football.

Won 28 league titles in a row now......if only I was that good in real life.

Tempted by the new 19 version, will probably get it before Christmas

I did something similar with 2012. I loaded it few weeks back to reminisce. I'd only managed 31 seasons, but did have a new stadium built in my honour. Which buggered finances massively!

On the game I had it was the year when Parma had been kicked into non-league. I simulated the first year and they always get promotion to Serie C so I took them over, and you pretty much get a blank slate of a squad to fill up which was good fun.

I tried another really ambitious save where I took over Vaduz (Liechtensteiner team in the Swiss league) and the plan was to build them up while also using my youth team to make a passable Liechtenstein national team. In reality Vaduz were rubbish and I got sacked in the first season. :ROFLMAO:

The winning streak continues, 30 games won in a row, top of the league by 14 points, but now I think I go into a another league, not promotion, just playoffs. From what I read, the lower Portuguese leagues have up to 80 teams split by region across 5 or 6 leagues, the top two in each league once each have played each other home and away, go into a playoff league, where they again play each other home and away, the winner of that league then goes into the Pro leagues. I think, three games to go and I'll find out.

That Vaduz challenge is quite a popular one in the FM Community with people trying to win the Champions League as them. You qualify for the 1st qualifying round of the Europa League through the Liechtenstien Cup but the only way to the CL is by winning the Europa League so it's incredibly difficult. Don't think I've got the patience for a save like that tbh

It doesn't take much patience when you get the sack with your side in dead last, trust me. (y)

Haha very true. I rarely get sacked in FM, not because I'm awesome at the game, but because I've normally jumped ship to a new save way before that happens, so you're more patient than me

I'm going to see what happens with this FM career. not decided if I want to apply for bigger clubs, accept offers from bigger clubs that may come in regardless of country, or stick with Vilafranquense and see if I can get them to the top of the Portuguese leagues.

I'll pick this up when I've finished Red Dead Redemption 2...which will probably be in about a year with all the stuff that there's to do.
