Floods

Drove from Leeds to York today and there’s a football pitch just off the A64. Well, it used to be a pitch. Can just see the top foot or so of the nets sticking out of the newly formed lake.

A view of Worcester today. When will it end!
Spot the Cricket Ground.

Is Worcester not one of those places that floods most years? I'm sure I've seen the cricket ground underwater previously and they were pretty laid back about it as it happens quite often. Awful for people who's homes and businesses are flooded. It has a devastating impact.

Worse than ever this time on all accounts, flood water levels higher than theyve ever been and got into structures and parts of the pavillion they hadnt before on. Expect theyll move early season games to Kidderminster again, hard to believe anyone is insuring them anymore and at what price if they are

Not like this.

Talking to a guy last night who was in the Worcester sherwood foresters. His step dad lives in Worcester. He goes to his mums grave every week. Not for the last week or, so the headstone is under water. He showed me some photos, Truly heart breaking. His step dad said he has never known flooding like that in his life.

Sad scene, remember seeing Carlisle looking like that a few years back, so demoralising for those affected. If it happens once you kind of know it's going to repeat - 100 year events are becoming 10 or 20 year events. Your property or business becomes uninsurable or too expensive to afford cover and the value of your property plunges.

If looking at property, watercourses are about the first thing you need to research.

Talking to an ex-pat, immigrant like me, who's been out here since the early 80's. Once upon a time it would rain 4-5 days a year, and maybe flood once every few years. 8-10 days rain these last 4 years, and flooding every year.

Mind you, 24*, t-shirt and shorts weather has been back with us for a few weeks now.

My brother’s street flooded that Christmas in Carlisle while he was in Northern Ireland with our family. He had to phone a neighbour to find out how bad it was to be told the flooding had stopped about twenty yards down the street from his front door. He got VERY lucky.
