First Time I Have Seen a DQ for Adjusting Your Driver.

On a similar theme, do any of the gurus have a comment on this ....

I was wondering if it was legal to carry a replacement shaft, and install during the round (see this http://www.usga.org/Rule-Books/Rules-of-Golf/Decision-04/#d4-4a-15 ) .... I wonder if the rules have missed some of the new developments in shafts that can be installed so simply.
If he carries a spare shaft, I wonder if breaking his clubs happens a lot for him. Most people don't hit themselves on the back on their follow through!

quite possible, the guy was having one of those rounds. by the 13th he decided he wanted to adjust his driver and did so knowing full well he was going to be DQ'd !

So when I came second to a FC who, in a fit of temper, wrapped his sand wedge round a tree and then tried to straighten it, he should have been DQ'd?

The act of trying to straighten it isn't enough for a DQ but if he used it in it's damaged state then yes he should have been DQ'd. Rule 4-3b

haven't looked at the links but the rules do not permit this under the category of repair. In a repair the player is limited to the grip, shaft and clubhead used to comprise the club at the beginning of the stipulated round or, in the case of a club later added, when the club was selected for play.

basically the club repaired in that manner becomes a replacement rather than a repair - and the replacement rules apply! :)

I often wonder about this. We don’t know the circumstances and I’m reading about dobbing him in, it’s a DQ. Dobbing has nothing to do with it. Time and time again I see rules being broken and people don’t want to say anything. Think about it, whoever it was, might not have wanted any confrontation mid round, maybe he was going well, maybe the wind got up and the other guy changed it to hit a lower flight. It’s a DQ and whoever reported him, if it wasn’t the player himself, during, after or whenever, has done the right thing. DQ

Quite right too , I have adjustments on my driver but have never done it , no need too ........................

Out of interest, why people buy adjustable drivers if they have no intention of ever adjusting them?

Fun- remember that in golf.

Windy Links course crank it down, calm soft parkland course crank it up for more air time.

Then theres the times your swing changes for whatever reason and you want some more/less loft, or open/closed/neutral face.

I had lots of fun with the R1

You adjust your driver for different conditions,I assumed that was the whole point, so it was a worthwhile purchase for you.
It was more than some people buy an adjustable, set it at 10.5 and never change it.

I honestly think that the likes of Cobra and Nike with adjustable lofts love it for thier bottom line. For example my Cobra amp. Able to be set up as 8.5, 9.5, 9.5 D, 10.5 10.5D and 11.5. That's 6 different club with one head being made. Even if you exclude the draw settings that's a common range of lofts that would require 4 sepeate heads to be produced. Then eejits like me can play around with it until something breaks.

Exactly it, I always saw adjustable clubs as being more for the benefit of the retailer and manufacturer than the golfer. Soon those long racks of clubs will be gone and all that will be needed is one demo club for each range and a bag of shafts. Far more economical for the retailer and the manufacturer. These clubs, I assume, however, are not cheap to produce and so some benefit has to be sold to the average golfer to make him want to part with more cash than he would spend on a non adjustable model. Or maybe that is just me being cynical.

What we really need is an adjustable iron, and the rules changed so that we can use it.
Lovely light bag...One driver, one adjustable wood, maybe a long and a short adjustable iron and a putter.

Oh, and a chipper...

I've adjusted my TM R1. Increased the loft from 10 to 11.3 degrees, flatter lie angle and swopped the weights round to give a slight draw bias. As bought I found it difficult to get the ball airborne and tended to lose the ball a bit right. Now hit the ball really well with it. :)
