Evening all.

I have had a set of lessons to the point where I feel comfortable, and where my pro feels I have a good basis. I have a set of clubs that I feel comfortable with. I have been practicing.

All that remains now, is for me to go and play my first ever round! I'm wondering - what sort of scores did you all get in your first rounds? I'm not particularly worried, but it will be interesting to see how it turns out.

I think my first round was 102 but that never happened until it was around 15 and had been playfully hitting a ball around for a while.
Just remember every shot around the green can be played in a multitude of ways. Dont always play the high pitch just because you have a good lie and dont always go for the flag when a perfectly good middle of the green will suffice, aim for 28 over and you will be surprised at how well you actually do.

Eer, I don't think I should reveal this bit of info.

Moving onto a full length course can be intimidating, especially on a busy weekend.

Don't count, just enjoy it. Use cheap balls, loose many, don't care about it and, have I said this already, enjoy it.

Good luck, and enjoy! You have plenty of time to worry about scores etc. later on.

I don't even know what my score was after my first round. To be honest, I didbn't care. My main aim on my first round at a "proper" golf course was to go out and enjoy it. It was an experience and yes, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Don't get too hung up about what your score is, it can ruin your round. Just go out and try and enjoy the game.

Don't put too much emphasis on or take too much notice of your score, being you first round you are bound to have some nerves and this could affect you , i know i did . I didn't want to look stupid in front of friends ,was very self concious when aware of being watched by others.
You probably have a standard that you would like to play to but play the percentages, take on the shots that you know you can do , not the ones that you would like to do.We all like to go for the glory shots but they can be card wreckers. Don't put any pressure on yourself, go out to enjoy it . Once you get comfortable playing amongst others and familiar with the course then your scores will reflect your ability and potential.
Good luck, enjoy it :)

157 and I won It was the first time me or my mate had played. The course was Bingley St. Ives, a course with lots of heather and we did not know about the unplayable rule. We hacked and hacked from the heather until the ball came out.

Hi,

enjoy your first round mate . My first score was 168, but as always there was that 1 good shot that made me want to come back and try again.

Let us all know how you got on.

Cheers

I agree with Midnight. You're bound to have 1 shot at least that you look at and think - Yeah! That was good.

That's all you should be looking for at this point. And don't try the impossible. if you've got 220 yards to the green over water - lay-up!!
