I finally played the full proper course at my local club (Ramsdale) this weekend. Didn't really improve on my score for 18 holes (120 ouch) but it was my first time round. I think I'm improving. I actually got up the courage to hit a driver on a course for the first time and generally speaking it was straight and long.
The back 9 of this course is mountainous but has beautiful views (I have a pic if anyone can tell me how to post it on here). I really want to get that score down as soon as I can. Want to be at least close to 100.
Any top tips from the veterans?

Dont expect it too soon on ramsdale fella, thats a tough track you're playing there with some loooooooooooong and challenging holes!!

Just stick with it, best advice I could give is if you're planning on staying with Ramsdale, buy you're own buggy as it'll save you a fortune in the long run!! lol

hah. That makes sense. Is it regarded as a tough course? I felt I played ok but didn't get close to my score at Dunston Hall a few weeks back. I was a bit dejected when I added up my card.

Sounds like you're enjoying it - that is the main reason to play.

Regarding improving watch good players and watch carefully what they do, read some instructional books, dont go mad on lessons but take a few early on to get the basics right - grip, ball positon etc, that is key to get off on the right foot.

Short game - get good at this and your scores will tumble.
:p

I've played Ramsdale 3 times and I think its tough.

Played off the whites once and it makes the course massively more tough, I think its the 14th (dogleg right) where the white tee is about 100yds further back than the yellows and its a good 250yd carry to the dogleg!

The front 9 is not so bad, the back 9 with its slopes and contours will and has murdered the not so straight hitter!

Is that the course North of Nottingham with the par 3 course there too?
If it is i have played the par3 I thought it was a nice looking place i will have to get down and play the full track sometime. I think a trip down one weekend would be a good idea ;)

Timber...I suggested this course originally for the GM vs Magic game next year but we plumped for Forrest Pines instead for various reasons.

Maybe a North vs South game could be in order and play it there!

I'll discuss it with viggers tomorrow and see if he fancies lying awake all night again anytime soon! lmfao

I am a seial insomniac.
I lay awake every night. As long as I can ahve nap around 9am i'm sorted :D

Is this a Nth v Sth. A nth east/west v South or just a fecking free for all?

How about Welsh Wales for a meet?

OR a "tour" of Scotland? I fancy another curry with Andy, Andy, Fraser and any other Jocko who fancies a night out.
Another thread coming I think

Entire North of the Uk vs the Soft Southern Jessies.

Century can be on a winning team then for a change ;)

Ramsdale in Notts would be the ideal place though and we could do 27 holes, the par 3 course on the morning, lunch and then 18 holes on Kilimanjaro on the afternoon.

What say you?

Yeah. I've played the par 3 (the Lee course) a few times and it's nicely varied and well maintained. I really like the facilities and the temperament of people up there. (not that I have that much to compare it to) Seems like a great place to get into the sport.

You really are on that whisky arn't you?

;)

Oh yes!

There is a saying in Yorkshire. Is the bottle half full or half empty? Nay lad, the's now't left at all.

Bill. That WAS a very nice whiskey. I am a bit of a P**& head.

I am up for doing something else.

I have had the offer of a good discount from the trophy supplier. I went to see him today (he is a golfer) to thank him. When he said this I asked why he didn't give me the discount.
