Favourite Finishing Hole in Golf

Following on from the 1st hole thread, this one will be interesting. espeically as it seems people didn't like a hard hole to start.

I will start with the 18th on the East Course @ Saunton, personally i think 1 and 18 are two amazing holes.

St Mellion, Goodwood and Blackmoor are also right up there for me.

finishing holes i don't think are that great are Woodhall Spa, Hankley and Camberley Heath.

My old Course Gourock Golf Club 18th hole is a cracker. Driveable par 4 if your brave.

Here's a wee video

Hard to pick just one but I think St Enodoc off the championship tee, Valderrama and Kingsbarns all have very strong finishing holes.

I agree that Hankley is another good contender along with Carnoustie.

Not mad about the tee shot at Beau Desert, but if you can position one at the top of the hill I think the second shot is my favourite 18th approach shot of any course I've played.

Woodbury Park
Rolls of Monmouth

Both par 3's with water involved.

I just love the view of the house behind the green at the Rolls. Made two 2's in one day once on that hole. Knocked a five iron stiff both times.

The 18th at my home course, Whalsay GC in Shetland, was described by the SGU as one of the finest finishing holes in Scotland.

Elevated tee,dog leg par 4, depending on wind direction the big hitters can go for the green over a large loch, around 270 carry, others if not hitting a long enough drive will still have to play a shot over the loch ,hit a decent drive and you will be left with a short iron into a semi island green.

Hoylakes 18th isn't that good Phil it's a par 4 the normal way round

Yep, the last 3 holes I think are pretty poor the normal way around, pretty flat and just up & down with neighbouring fairways, quite a bland finish IMO.

My home course has a cracking par 5 finishing hole with a high elevated drive.

From other courses, Royal Lytham and Wallasey are 2 great holes....

I really enjoy the 18th at my own club when the back nine is the old nine (we are 3 loops of 9).
Par 5 with both a water hazard and OOB down the right and heavt rough, heather and gorse down the left. Not a narrow fairway by any means but a line of very tall fir trees down the tee, which is set back around 50 yards from the start of the fairway (yellows) and 110 yards (whites) makes for an interesting narrow looking corridor. Fairway slopes a little left to right and we have our own wee "swilcan" bridge about 100 yards from the green which is elevated with a wide fast flowing burn running across. Great finishing hole and played right a great opportunity for Eagle off the yellows, not so much off the whites but a good birdie chance.

I also really enjoyed the 18th at Millport, elevated tee set well back with a "where do I go" look about it with a burn running across it. It's not massively long but I enjoyed it.

Now there is a blast from the plast.

Tee off from beside the reservoir. Out of bounds left and right, duff it and you could be in the reservoir. The landing area gets more generous the further you go then you have the burn to consider. Plus two front and two rear bunkers with OB again 10-20 yards right of the green.

Good shout.

Another vote for St Pierre.

One of the toughest par 3s you will ever play, especially with a packed patio outside the clubhouse.

Not easy with the resident GM snapper trying to capture your closing moments and the likes of messrs Harris and Ellwood looking on and trying to a) not stuff it in the water, b) not muck the chip and c) trying to match your opponent you think is also in contention to win

18th of the New Course is hugely better than 18th of the Old. Castle is a cracker and agree Leven 18th much better than Lundin, though Lundin a prettier course. Still haven't parred Leven 18th

Can't believe the18th at St Pierre is mentioned as a favourite, it's a horrible long par 3. Favourite holes are meant to be enjoyed and par 3's where you need to hit woods into are not enjoyable I'm afraid. Horrible finishing hole to an average golf course.
