What is/are your favorite shots that fill you with pride when it comes of the way you imagine it would have.

Mine is either the lob over a bunker ect with not a great amount of space to the pin when the ball lands soft and goes close, or a long approach shot that finds the green.

Not saying i do either the way i imagine on a regular basis by a long shot, but when it comes of it really gets me going and they are the shots i take home with me and brings me back again.

I like hitting a big power fade to get me around tree branches .it looks the nuts when i pull it off. But what does it for me is holing chips, You cant beat it!

I'm enjoying the high, soft landing, long iron shots at the moment. Always looks quite flash, but useful.

Been working on them since the greenkeepers at our course sorted the burn in front of the green at one of our par fives (you can't run the ball through it anymore).

If I have a good drive I'm left with a 2, 3, or 4 iron over the burn, with OOB through the green. I know that if I pull that shot off then it's birdie-time. Fun but risky if it doesn't come off.

mines a high fade pull it off most of the time and when the ball lands it stops quickly so great for tight pins.ian mc

As a Scot who enjoys the fickle fates of links golf I must say the well struck long iron off a tight links turf lye is one of the most pleasing shots that you can hit.It is a real thing of beauty. It has that magic that seems to last into the bar afterwards and as the libations flow, it becomes a purer and purer strike! Its shots like that that make you go back again and again.

I played at Carnoustie on an outing five years ago and had my two best ever links shots one after the other. Playing the 18th I played what must be one of my all time best drives which went well down the fairway. I stood over the ball and decided to go with a four iron. Again it was right out the middle. It flew over the burn, pitched between the burn and the green and rolled out onto the lhs of the green. I had a 20' birdie putt... slightly uphill, but curling left to right... if only I could have putted that day.... Still I got a four at the 18th at Carnoustie and my mates are all sick of my "did I ever tell you about my birdie putt" story.

At the moment

It's mid winter and everyone is taking a five or six iron at 140yard par 3s, punching the ball low to keep under the wind and threading the eye of the needle with the bunkers.

Up you step, judge the wind coming howling like a gale from your right, pull an eight or nine iron from the bag (depending if wind slightly for or against) aim 30 yards to the right of the green and watch the ball come sailing in as if remote controlled onto the putting surface.

Looks good but is a trifle riscky..........

I love my vokey wedge, I hit pretty hard into the back of it on approach shots and from 50 yards can throw it to the back of the green and spin it to the middle on occasions rather than risk being short. My 5 wood is also very dependable as its always a 15 yard draw unless I try to hit it with a fade then it all goes to pot.

I only returned to golf this time last year so any half decent shot pleases me, although last summer I did play a short bump and run which ran all the way and into the cup, I felt very lucky but a two on a par three had me grinning till bedtime and some more the next day.

Personally at the moment its approach shots from about 160 yards. Using an 8 or 7 iron and drawing them slightly in.

Love it when the shot is right at the pin and you have to walk up to the green to see if its good or long/short!

I love to cut the ball up with my LW and get plenty of practice at it with our course having lots of elevated greens protected by bunkers.

Saying that though I've recently been working on keeping the ball as low as possible around the greens to improve consistency.

Another fav shot when it's pulled off correctly (and not just pulled off the planet!) is the low punch shot.

Id have to say an accurate tee shot on a downhill par 3, is my favourite shot. The fact that you are above the green gives you a perfect view of the flight, the landing and the roll out of your ball, allowing you to watch it the whole way, and see perfectly how the ball ends up near to the pin. This shot is also satisfying when you consider the difficulty of club selection, even in the slightest of winds.

might just be me but i can almost feel the pride on this thread of the perfectly struck golf shot.

Great feeling when it happens, always like to be able to say played for and got after a shot.

Sweetly struck 2 or 3 iron to the green on a long par 4. You know when you have hit it good and you hold the finish that fraction longer .

Also , a 30ft putt dropping is always a great feeling !!

For me it's a solidly stuck 3 wood second shot to a par 5 off the short stuff that makes it to the green, you watch it in the air willing it to make it and when it does heaven.

Straight, long, high mid iron shot onto the green within 5 foot of pin. Impossible with the current weather but well worth the wait in the summer.

Mines has to be using a lob wedge around the green when the ball has reached its height and then lands softly beside the flag.

That's the baby.......you can leave your monster drives and lob shots in the cake. The icing is having a crack at the green from far away, creaming a fairway wood, it starts at the left bunker, comes round a few yards at the end and bingo, on the green with a chance for eagle.
