Faldo

Not a fan of Faldo, like Feherty. Liked his comment about Faldo , can't remember where, "Nick Faldo can't be with us tonight, he's attending the birth of his next wife"

A funny line, the problem is for me anyway he constantly tries to be funny, back when he worked in Europe he was better as his funny line was a single witty observation amongst his professional reporting, now he tries to be funny with every line and he is not THAT funny (I
watch a tonne of comedy, i want them to be Funny)

Golf commentator, he should understand where he fits in.

I remember Feherty arriving in the USA.. people said this guy is hilarious and they turned him into a golf comedian and now his remit includes be funny as its forced it does not work, who tunes in to watch golf to have an amateur comedian make jokes?

Line about Faldos wife is very good and it would be a lot better if it were not surrounded by 10 lines that failed

Faldo meh.
i will keep my own council on him as none of you would believe me anyway.

I'd like to hear/see it! Met him (briefly) away from golf a couple of times and he's quite pleasant, if still 'focused'!

Remember that are opinions are like anuses - everyone has one, and it's their own that's the most important!

Faldo is so full of his own importance.

Its a thin line to who was the worst ever European Ryder Cup Captain him or Mark James, my money is on Faldo.

Fine line between apparent self-importance and the drive and focus that makes a champion!

As for Ryder Cup captaincy...It was always obvious to me that Faldo was not going to be a success - he just wasn't/isn't a 'team' person! It appears Tom Watson had similar, if slightly different, issues managing a team of pretty high ego personalities, so not really a 'fault' imo! In Faldo's case, I blame the (Captaincy) selection panel, who should have had the cajones to say 'No, you are not the right personality' to him! I agree that Mark James was also a dire choice - for a similar reason!

Faldo took a lot of flak for the Ryder Cup debacle but things werent all of his doing. It was the first RC in almost 2 decades without Monty, who by that point was the team's talisman, there was the tension between Harrington and Garcia, two of the senior players, and the team just looked weak.

Add in that Azinger galvanised the States in a way that has probably never happened before or since and Europe were almost on a hiding to nothing.

Lets not forget Faldo picked Poulter when everyone said he shouldnt and it turned out to be a brilliant decision.

Not particularly a fan especially after reading his Biography but he is definitely one of golf greats, as for his humour etc didnt his ex wife say he was a great golfer but socially he's a 28 handicapper :D

Faldo is an excellent commentator, probably one of the best golf ones about. I much prefer watching the U.S. golf when he's on, he's informative and captivating. There's pretty much nothing he doesn't know about the game.

I like Faldo, great player in his day and quite like him in the commentary box. My dad met him at a concert years ago and had him sign his ticket for me, said he was an absolute gentleman.

The 2008 Ryder cup was lost for many reasons, but I would put faldo's captaincy near the bottom of the list. The fact that azinger galvanised his team they way he did, combined with the terrible performances from our big guns, Harrington, Garcia, Westwood, was more to blame.

I was always such a fan of his game (killer long irons or clutch putting anyone?) and have enormous respect for his achievements and what he did for the game here. His commitments to junior golf have also been terrific and should be applauded as such.

Sadly he's gone the way of the American commentator; either 'look at me I'm hilarious, honest' like McCord or Feherty; pointless technocrat like Choker-Finch or vomit inducing sycophant a la Nantz. He does offer a little more than the others but I turn American commentary off to save my blood pressure and then I can also remember him for the good stuff.

Oddly, I do rather like listening to Rich Beem who is both interesting and honest - so far.

A very good golfer indeed but he played in a way that did not chime with me. I much preferred a swashbuckler to a robot and still recall how sad I was to see him beat Greg Norman at the Masters.

Off the course, I find him about as funny as root canal work. When he sang "My Way" at the Open as part of his acceptance speech, it was the most toe-curling moment I can recall in the history of golf.

I am not a fan.

Beemer is my favourite also, I like the Aussie on course guy too, just a bit more relaxed, kind of fallen just out the pub approach. US commentary is painful full stop, Faldo adds just a modicum of legitimacy about it, I don't mind him personally, I guess it would be a hard gig being a US commentator.

I am not a fan.

Was that when he thanked the press "from the heart of my bottom"?

On the American golf I think Peter Kostis is good at the technical stuff, and Roger Maltby isn't too bad on the course, and Frank Nobilo is ok in the commentary booth.
But, Jacobson, McCord and Faldo I'm not so keen on.
