Exceptional Scoring Reduction ?

Question on a slight thread creep Rosecott, can you still have general play cuts or are they done away with now?

I don't know who threatened you but he doesn't know what he's talking about. ESRs are based on scores of -4 nett differentials not -1.

It wasn't based on just one round, it was due to me being cut 2.4, then 0.7 and then 0.3 so the suggestion is that my cuts aren't keeping pace with my ability but I think the fact they've tapered off shows they have!

A couple of recent posts from the OP suggests this game is pretty easy for some learners :)

well as there could be a few today i thought i would mention my score :D my PB :D
Played the monthly medal and scored gross 56 , playing off 16hc.

overall 4 over the best ive done ! , playing again tomorrow hopefully the same but doubt it .

Not a bad round , it was 5 over ;(
6 over on the front nine , as i had two bad holes within the first three holes(need to warm up quicker)
1 under on the back nine
the club are now going to mount the ball i used and present it too me , bonus it was a new ball out the box for the round & not a crappy one.
a Callaway Black Hex tour (great ball)

Woah, Woah, there's something big hidden between the lines here. Although you seem to have ended up with what is probably a correct handicap, there's something a bit dodgy in the process. You were allocated a handicap of 24, played 2 "Sunday Bashes" and were immediately chopped 7 shots under clause 23. From the info, the 2 rounds were not qualifiers and were played off 3/4 handicap. I have never, ever heard of a 7 shot clause 23 reduction and that after playing only 2 non-qualifiers - it doesn't add up. There's got to be more to this than meets the eye

Reading that doesn't make me quite so bad about by 2 wins. Presumeably after being 8 bettewr than CSS last week, another round like that in the next few weeks and I could be in for a ESR.

They are still allowed but should be pretty rare with the introduction of ESR. There will still be situations such as when it is realised that an initial allocation may have been over-generous.

I'm sure there is - this is, after all, a record of competition scores with, presumably, a significant number of NQ comps over the winter months.

It's entirely possible that there was other evidence, in addition to the NQ scores illustrated, that lead the committee to consider that they had allocated the wrong handicap in the first place.

part of the problem is that they are using 'clause 23' as their label for everything - clearly they aren't all annual reviews.

a good example of what the ESR should be delivering without intervention going forwards, interesting to put all those scores into a series of calcs based on them all being Q scores and that the ESR existed from day 1. Obviously it would help to know at least an SSS!

I agree but would point out the obvious - general play is fundamently about NQ evidence, then annual reviews are about patterns within Q comps etc

I would certainly pre-empt ESR in the first couple of competitions - firmly beleive that these are a real indicator as to whether the 3 cards were representative!

Accordign to website SSS at Rose bowl county club is 66 off white, 65 of yellows.

I would have thought it would be higher off yellows than whites not less.

More mystery! The EGU website - OK Golf England now - has it as a 9-hole course par 69 SSS 69 from the whites (yellows not mentioned)..

Incorrect initial handicap, which would appear to be the case, is also Clause 23.
