Is it time we plugged the plug on it, just abstain, walk away, tell them to shove it.

Should we have a vote ourselves, after-all, its our licence fee that's paying for it, isn't it?

Its a complete sham and nonsense, totally political.

I vote to get rid

Harmless fun and sometimes good for a giggle (not to mention the fit burdz).

I vote to keep it. :)

cost the bbc (us )millions to show it,as one of the originals i think we are obliged to pay towards the shows costs, should be sacked off now just a scam in the votes and has no relevance to musical tastes, never watched it for years and years.

Cost to the Beeb [us] for Eurovision will be a whole lot less than an hour of drama programming...

How much they spend on the whole kerfuffle surrounding it is another matter...

Didn't watch it, but guy on radio this morning was making a decent case that this year was proof of no/reduced political voting.

Heard the UK entry recently. Truly appalling and presumably intended to be confident of failure so that the UK will not have to host the blasted thing. They should have made it more obvious as Ireland did with Duston the Turkey a few years back.

Not sure about that. Mrs Colch put it on for the voting and Graham Norton predicted who each country was going to vote for and was right around 80% of the time.

I thought we went into it with the goal of doing as badly as possible......
Haven't heard a decent entry form the UK for decades.......

i thought that, mind you i think that about the football, cricket, rugby, etc good job we have the europeans in the Ryder cup !!!

It's an expensive waste of a licence fee to put in an entry that will be subject to politically biased voting no matter how much the powers that be argue. Pull the plug on what is becoming more of a freak show and political platform than a singing contest

Can somebody explain the political voting of Malta giving Sweden 10 points (or thereabouts) please?

Not sure I get the political links that led to Australia getting votes or indeed Russia (politically despised? around Europe at the moment) getting twelve points left right and centre.

The political voting argument is, I'm afraid; utter nonsense, claptrap, an urban myth if you will, repeated ad nauseam by those who have heard their mate say that or read it in the paper.

Perhaps certain countries are culturally closer and vote that way? More chance of an Estonian liking the cut of Lithuanias jib than Portugals perhaps?

:)

The Balkans will always stick together as will the ex Russian States as will the Baltic States.
The whole of Europe relies on Russian gas, so nobody wants to get up Vlads nose

The whole of Europe hate France, Germany and US even though collectively ,we are propping up the whole shebang financially.

But it is good fun, could have done with a few more freaks though :)

Im bored and can't sleep so I'm going to bite.

Averaged 8.79million viewers in 2014 with a peak of 10.6million. 8.94 million according to barb.co.uk. Cost per viewer that's not bad going at all.

No figures yet for this year or any idea of cost but can look back to 2012 where figures are easy to come by.

The cost in paid by the BBC to enter in 2012 was £310K. They also paid £1.2million to the European Broadcasting Union but that provides a wide range of rights.

Viewing figures 7.59million from barb.co.uk so last year it had gone up. No figures yet for this year.

Now lets for arguments sake say that the beeb got no other rights for the 1.2million paid to the EBU just Eurovision. That's it. And lets say the also paid another 490K for bits and pieces just to round that total figure up to 2 million just for eurovision. A significantly higher cost that would have been actually incurred.

It cost each viewer 26p ish.

In the same year this is what some of the sport events managed and you can be sure most would have cost more than eurovision.

Olympics Opening Ceremony: 24.24 million.

Euro 2012 Eng vs Ita: 20.34million

Wimbledon managed a peak of 11.52 million across the week.

The British G.P: 2.86 million

The Masters managed 2.17 million viewers (This year is up a little at 2.46 million)

The Open managed 1.22 million viewers. (Only managed 1.02 in 2014)

Now I don't think we'd be saying the Golf is a waste of money but it's viewing figures aren't exactly something to write home about.

Great post there. It is just a bit of big gay fun and anyone who thinks it is a serious musical contest is kind of missing the point. And anyway, the late great John Peel used to love it and went every year. And he knew me about music than any of us.

Sorry Homer, but I can't agree.

I thought it was one of the better shows this year. A lot of the performances were very good, and the staging was absolutely superb.

The top 3, Sweden, Russia and Italy, were all very close and any one of them could have won. Sweden were worthy winners though, with a catchy song, well performed by a good looking young guy and the staging and special effects were very imaginative.

The downside of course is, how dismal the UK song choice was. It baffles me how with all the great musicians and up coming artists and songwriters that we cannot get together a creditable act to put forward and show them how it's done!

Maybe it should be the XFactor or BGT winner that should be put forward :mmm:
