I honestly don't know why we bother. We never get anywhere because most of the rest of Europe hates us - its just a waste of time and money. Who needs it?

It does seem the British entry gets victimised in the voting every year and it would be interesting to see how it fared if we pulled out altogether. Surely they must need the audience figures from the UK (and the income our entry must produce for them etc) to make it a viable contest. I'm sure if a few of the larger nations pulled out and it was all ex-Eastern bloc nations then they would be forced into reworking the voting procedures. At the moment its a farce and a waste of time apart from the short term publicity and noteriety for whoever represents us

The British entry (sung by "Josh") was utter pants and deserved to be last.

It's not surprising that the continent hates us when everyone has to speak in English (except the French girl giving their voting results, she refused to use English at all)

Didn't see it but I had heard a snippet of the UK entry the day before and couldn't for the life of me understand why it was chosen and why Pete Waterman was involved, his Rick Astley/Kylie inspired beats sounded crap in 1988 never mind now!

Re English being spoken I think its just accepted that English is the 'worldwide' language i.e. more people have it as their second language than any other. Of course Les Francais will never accept that. :p

Was the winner any good?

Is it still going? I didn't even know it was on, haven't heard our entry and don't care if we came last. I really don't understand how people can be bothered about a European song contest that doesn't even feature the best songs?

What an absolutely pointless waste of time the whole thing is.

Totally agree, thought there were some pretty decent songs this year and agreed with the winner, but the UK entry was a disgrace with the quality of music this country produces, the culprit for this years entry should be flogged! :p

Yes. I was an utter disaster of a song and the lad couldn't sing. Last year the Lloyd Webber effort was tawdry turd.
We *do* have some remarkable song writers in the country (I even know some) but they wouldn't go near this competition. That's the issue. I rather liked the Muse-ish effort from Turkey. The German girl needed a slap.

Homer, it's not the UK audience figures they need, it's the small fortune we, the French and the Germans cough up every year to stage it. it's why we don't have to go into the 'semi-finals'.

the money we waste on this could fund a good bit of golf on terrestrial tv.

just pull out completely - utter garbage

I think I said this. If we pulled out until such time that a better and fairer voting system was introduced and not the old pals act or anti-Britain then the lost revenue MAY force their hand. I doubt it though and can't see the point of it anymore.
