ESR cut me by 2.3 shots!

If nett double bogey is 6 then the calc is correct, if nett double bogey is 5, then he should've been cut by another 0.3. I'd be surprised if a par 3 is SI 1 or 2...

I played at MadAdeys course and I'm pretty sure they had a par3 index 2, it might not be common but their certainly out their! Most likely though its a 6-5 for 0 removing 2 extra shots from his 7.

Two shots surely? 7 down to 5. Which means two more stableford points, taking him from 38 to 40.

If CSS is 1 over par, then that's 0.3 x 5 + 1 for the ESR which is 2.5 not 2.2. Something doesn't add up.

I joined Merrist Wood in Guildford. Really like the course, plus benefits of playing other Crown Golf courses for free (although not at peak times). Got a good deal for a year too.

I like Merrist, can be tricky (and tiring). One of my neigbhour is a member, but she does moan a lot about it. Apparently not the best drainage out there. So lot of holes closed during winter/wet months. But then you can always play the other crowns. Pine Ridge can be very good backup option. How about a match later this month.. you can test your new HC.

I edited my post as you posted :smirk:

The par 3 at Adey's course was Si3 (the 6th), I must have been off 21 then as I remember getting 2 shots on it

Surely not, he will get a shot on every hole so a net double bogey on a par 3 (net 4) will be at least 6, therefore 1 shot stableford adjustment

That sounds like a challenge! At yours or mine or mutual? The drainage can be bad, but they're putting in new drainage which is going to help a alot I'm told!

well done sir! What part of the game turned it around for you?

Putting. Only 1 three putt, plenty of 1 putts with some nice chips from off the green.

Hit the pin with a chip on the 1st & last holes, just too much on the ball so they didn't drop but stopped quite close.

That may be so but the majority of your drives were very good, you just had some poor approach shots into and around the green, but the signs were there that you've got a much better game in you than what was fully on display that day, don't be too hard on yourself

I'll try not to be :)

Yes, but it's at least 40 (based on the OP), and I would guess it's exactly that because that accords with the handicap cut.

EDIT: Now I'm slightly confused based on Adam's latest post. Was the 11th SI 1 or 2? That's the only way I can see that the calc works out correctly. If CSS was 73, and the 11th is not SI 1 or 2, then you should have been cut to 17.3.

The 11th is not SI 1 or 2... it's SI 15!

 A nett double bogey with a shot on a par 3 is 6-5 for 0, not "net 4" as that would have given him a point!

either way.. havent played MW in a long while so lets do that (weather permitting)... otherwise hoebridge is always an option..

Sounds good. Let me see what day would be best, I think Sunday 26th would be good potentially?

lets go for 26th.... Any other forumite fancies a non-competitive, lazy four ball at Merrist Wood/Hoebridge?

Does ESR only come into play at 4 better than the standard scratch? If you were to say shoot 39 points of 3 better than your handicap in a close succession would you avoid a big chop from the ESR ruling?
