England v France match predicitions

As a neutral (sort of) I thought it was a good performance by England. Well-organised, disciplined, solid in defence restricting a better side to essentially long range shots. At the same time they looked dangerous on the break and at set pieces.

I'm also impressed with the new sense of realistic expectations from the English; not looking beyond getting out of the group instead of thinking about winning the whole thing. Keep it up and you'll maybe pick up a few new supporters north of the border!

Dull game, England looked difficult to break down to be fair but they wont get far playing like that.

It's probably the worst England team ive seen in years given the injuries they have and lack of strikers.

I can understand that sentiment, I only have a little time for England myself, would be more upset if LFC went out off the carling cup TBH.

However, the English press and more passionate England fans don't endear us to anyone else, with their bi-polar look at everything. Each tournament is the same, it's either were the best ever or the worst ever, with nothing in between.

Saw this tweet yesterday which made me guffaw:

"The England vs. France game will be shown live throughout the UK and Ireland, except in Scotland where they will be showing 'Wish You Were Here'"



But as Chris said, it's refreshing to see someone from north of the border giving an honest view of England.

It's true actually - reduced to supporting England's opposition to have any interest in it. I used to think Scotland always qualified for these things but that was a long time ago it seems.... :mmm:

FWIW I expect England to qualify from the group - probably beating both Sweden and Ukraine - but to get knocked out shortly afterwards. Just don't think think they're good enough to beat any of the big guns at the moment.

FWIW I expect England to qualify from the group - probably beating both Sweden and Ukraine - but to get knocked out shortly afterwards. Just don't think think they're good enough to beat any of the big guns at the moment.

I agree wholeheartedly. I feel like we "should" be good enough to get out of the group stages but anything more than that is a bonus right now to be honest.

Listening to the radio it's all "How far can england go?" all of a sudden.

That was Roy's third game in charge, he's building his system game by game, the players are only just learning his training systems, let alone his full game plan, ffs.

People keep on comparing our chances this year to those of Greece in 2004. But even then they had the same manger for 4 years to get the side working together as he wanted.

We haven't got a hope in hell this year. The best we can hope for are a couple of new faces coming through, and sowing the seeds of a system that will come good in 2 years time.

Parker, Gerrard, Terry, and Cole will almost certainly not be part of Roy's team in two years time, which will give him time to blood younger, fitter, more athletic players to give his preferred system a chance of success.

We might still be very dull defensively, but I don't see that as a problem if we can learn to switch defense into attack more quickly and efficiently.

I saw enough signs that we may just have something to build on.

Yep. Just about sums up my thoughts. Anything we do in this tournament is a bonus. A bit like England in the 6 nations earlier this year.

Roy has had TEN training sessions and 3 games (2 of which weren't competition games) in charge and we are already looking tidier and more organised than we have in years.

Give the man time, let us see what he can do.
