End of Season Predictions 2024/25

I thought it would be a fun one and gambled that he would make the step up. More interesting than the usual safe pick. I thought he had looked good in the Championship, couple of good seasons at Blackburn, he could keep it going. Oh how wrong I was 😭.
I believe he's yet to win a PL game whilst actually playing in a fixture....

Just out of interest - who was the best signing this season in people's opinions? I can't really think of a single player who was a new signing and really excelled. It was a category with no right answer.

Nikola Milenkovic for me.

A single signing who completely transformed our Defence (given the other 3 players were the same as last season). We went from having the worst set piece record in the league to one of the best.

Best £12m Forest have ever spent.

Is Raya considered a new signing? Others that have looked decent in my limited viewing of other sides:

Neto (Chelsea)
Sarr (Palace)
Delap (Ipswich)
Omar Marmoush (City)
Leny Yoro (Utd)
Nikola Milenkovic (Forest)
Aaron Wan Bissaka (West Ham)

Flops must be:
Raheem Sterling
Joao Felix
Federico Chiesa
Ilkay Gundogan
Dominic Solanke

Marmoush was January so we couldn't have gone for him. Likes of Neto, Sarr, Yoro and Wan-Bissaka were fine I guess but didn't really stand out. Milenkovic and Delap certainly would have got points if anyone said them though.

I'm not really having Solanke as a flop. Couple of injuries like everyone who plays under Ange, but he still managed 9 goals in the league, plus 5 in the Europa Cup run. 16 total isn't a bad return in a crap team.

Fair enough on Solanke. To me, he simply hadn't stood out as much as he had in his final season at Bournemouth. And a goal around every 3 games didn't seem a fantastic return compared to the fee Spurs paid, especially in a side that still scored 64 goals.

That being said, I'm only thinking about this season. I'm not ruling him out from becoming a bigger influence in the future

Signing of the season,

would not dispute those mentioned but I'd like to throw in Ndiaye at Everton. 33 PL games, 9 goals. Creative, works back. When you consider half of the season was in a Dyche team, those stats are even more impressive. And just for a reasonable £15m
Yea, he's been impressive in the games I've seen.

Looks a very talented player - scored a peach of a solo goal

Flops imo

Amorin
Felix
Sterling
Dewsbury Hall

A lot of the United signings haven’t performed
My take on the Utd signings, as I obviously watch them in much more detail than any other side:

Yoro: I think he has been excellent in virtually every game except the match v Southampton, where he was torn to pieces. Looks really assured on the ball, can bring the ball forwards, and I'm very hopeful he could have a decent future.

De Ligt: I really really like him. A true battling defender who looks up for the challenge. Early in his Utd days, Carragher did a piece on MNF ripping him to shreds after a poor game from Utd, and I suspect such analysis has influenced how people have seen him since. However, he had often been one of our most solid players, just a pity he has been injured of late.

Mazraoui: Another player who has been really good defensively for us, a very consistent performer. However, he seems to lack the attacking qualities as a wing back. I can see him being a versatile squad player, who can play wing back, one of the wide centre backs or defensive midfielder when needed

Ugarte: I very much like him in that defensive midfield role. But there is a lot of work to do in those 4 central midfield positions, in terms of sorting out the players and building up good relations between them. I think it is difficult from some players when the likes of Bruno will pop up anywhere, attacking central midfielders like Garnacho/Amad will drift wide a lot, and so I think staying connected to your other midfielders is tricky

Zirkzee: Not a great start, and I still wonder what the logic was behind such a signing. But, he has improved a lot and shown his physical strength and link up play. Pity he got injured last month or two of the season. But, if his qualities are to really come through, he actually needs decent players around him to link up with.

Dorgu: Very poor final ball still, but he looks to have everything else you'd want as a wing back, so hopefully the final ball will come. Still only 20.

Heaven: Still only 18, and only just came in to the side, but I was greatly pleasantly surprised when I saw him play. Too early to tell how he'll develop, but he looks class.

Chido Obi: Far too early to tell. Not shone in the first team in the few chances he has had, but 17 years old and playing the cursed position in the first team is a difficult start.

I suppose my comments are surprisingly positive for a team that has been so bad. But, given that our woes have primarily been in attack, I've not really been overly concerned about the defensive players to be honest.

@Swango1980 if Yoro is so good, why was he not a/ played more b/ started more?

I kept hearing a lot of fuss about him, 'best young defender in Europe......' but he didn't start that many games for you. That didn't make sense to me.

How the heck did they have such a poor season

Whilst scoring goals wasn’t great they also let in 55 goals in the Prem

Yoro - a lot of talent and ability , interesting to see how he develops

De Ligt - been passed around by multiple big clubs because of has the turning circle of the titanic and lacks pace

Urgate- hasn’t done anything imo to change my mind that he isn’t good enough at the top club in a league where pace is key and not great on the ball

Mazrouni - think did well and can see him staying

Zirkzee - from being booed off by his own fans he turned it around and by the end of the season I’m not sure why he didn’t play more

Dorgu - just looks very raw

No idea about the rest

If Amorin could sell the likes of De Ligt and Urgate he would

I can confirm that on Football Manager 24 Mobile, he became the best defender in the world by far for me. And they are never wrong. 😄

He was a player that we were after last summer as well but walked away when the fee got silly

He is only 19 and wasn’t expected to be starting a lot of games for us

But over £50mil a big fee
