End of Season Predictions 2024/25

@Swango1980 if Yoro is so good, why was he not a/ played more b/ started more?

I kept hearing a lot of fuss about him, 'best young defender in Europe......' but he didn't start that many games for you. That didn't make sense to me.
Generally he was injured.

He was out for 126 days at start of season due to an ankle injury, and 3 weeks from march due to a foot injury.

His first game was in December for Utd. They phased him on since then. We also had De Ligt, Maguire and Martinez, so when fit Yoro was probably not expected to play a lot at this stage in his career. He has played a lot more since he came back from his last injury in April

How the heck did they have such a poor season

Whilst scoring goals wasn’t great they also let in 55 goals in the Prem

Yoro - a lot of talent and ability , interesting to see how he develops

De Ligt - been passed around by multiple big clubs because of has the turning circle of the titanic and lacks pace

Urgate- hasn’t done anything imo to change my mind that he isn’t good enough at the top club in a league where pace is key and not great on the ball

Mazrouni - think did well and can see him staying

Zirkzee - from being booed off by his own fans he turned it around and by the end of the season I’m not sure why he didn’t play more

Dorgu - just looks very raw

No idea about the rest

If Amorin could sell the likes of De Ligt and Urgate he would
I would say we scored a fair few of those goals not because of serious flaws in defence, but complete lack of control of the attack. Giving the ball in ridiculous positions and putting the defence under stupid pressure too many times. If we had any sort of decent attacking cohesion, I suspect the goals we concede would drop off by quite a bit.

In terms of De Ligt, you make it sound like all these big clubs wanted rid of him, rather than look at it from the other perspective - that all these big clubs wanted to buy him. Not that I've followed the exact reasons of each transfer, but he was always going to leave Ajax to further his career. It was De Ligts decision to leave Juve, as he felt he had a better chance of winning Champions league. And, from my understanding, he had a good time at Bayern and played a key role in his final season there. However, Kompany favoured other types of defender, and was willing to let him go. No problem there, each manager is different. But, just because one manager doesn't see a future for a player at a club, it doesn't mean they are 100% not good enough for every top club / league in the world. I bet many managers wouldn't have touched John Terry, and yet he was an absolute rock for Chelsea

Marmoush was January so we couldn't have gone for him. Likes of Neto, Sarr, Yoro and Wan-Bissaka were fine I guess but didn't really stand out. Milenkovic and Delap certainly would have got points if anyone said them though.

I'm not really having Solanke as a flop. Couple of injuries like everyone who plays under Ange, but he still managed 9 goals in the league, plus 5 in the Europa Cup run. 16 total isn't a bad return in a crap team.

AWB was outstanding all season, player of the year and made united look utterly ridiculous letting him go lol

"Good defender but offers nothing going forward"

2 goals and 5 assists says different 😂

Compare that to the guy they got to replace him.. 2 assists 0 goals

15 million? Robbed them

Fair play. You should have picked him instead of Summerville then. 😁

Edit: Just noticed he's now declared for DR Congo. You must be excited to lose him for a month every other January now?

Some claim fed up of waiting for England but I think he's very proud of his DR heritage. Yeah very annoying signed him as English and now he isn't in terms of the afcon .. much like when onana "wasn't" playing for Cameroon
