Hi all, as above looking for a recommendation for next February, I’ve had a look at Trip advisor and can see there is no shortage of choice. We are staying near the station on the Royal Mile. Any personal recommendations?
Both excellent places but we have been before in London, Was looking for something a bit more “Local” and maybe dare I say… intimate!Dishoom or Mowgli are both lovely, Indian
Nok's kitchen, in the Stockbridge area, Thai. It's about a 15 minute walk, a very pleasant walk, from the centre to Stockbridge. It's a very nice part of Edinburgh and this is tucked away there.

Understood. If you don't mind the walk / taxi, then the other suggestion, Nok's Kitchen fits the briefBoth excellent places but we have been before in London, Was looking for something a bit more “Local” and maybe dare I say… intimate!
Brewhemia might not fit the “intimate” brief.Makars Mash Shop - something a bit different and Scottish. Just off the Royal Mile so nice and easy to get to.
Also, check out Brewhemia if you want a meal with atmosphere, had a couple of great nights in there.
When we visited Edinburgh last year my brother RLBurnside took us to a couple of lovely restaurants but can't remember the names. He might be along later with recommendations.Hi all, as above looking for a recommendation for next February, I’ve had a look at Trip advisor and can see there is no shortage of choice. Depends which part of the bar you go in.Brewhemia might not fit the “intimate” brief.
Cracking pint of Stewarts Lager though.
Chophouse is my favourite so far, also from an earlier suggestion of The Kitchin there is a link to a nice place called The Scran and Scallie that looks good.Chophouse on Market Street. Small (built inside old railway arches) but very good with good service.
Noks Kitchen as per LT is a very good Thai in a nice location.
NoTo on Thisle Street, Asian fusion cuisine but hard to get a table.
Brasserie Prince at Balmoral or if you want the fancier option, Number One at Balmoral. Prince is a bit more relaxed.
I always forget about the upstairs bar. We're usually too big a group that they don't let us in there on a Saturday so we are always in the noisy halls. Many a messy day drinking sesh in there. The range of beers is superb.Depends which part of the bar you go in.
We had an afternoon tea with bubbles in the top bar and was quite cosy (not sure if that counts as intimate). Later in the week we had more alpine style food in one of the larger halls - live music and works Christmas do's - got a little wild and messy so definitely not on the intimate side![]()
We went there 2 years ago for my birthday treat - was trying to rack my brain to remember the name. We got the bus which drops you off just about outside. Food was really good, great staff - got a birthday card and free little dessert. Would highly recommend as it certainly fills the intimate bit.Chophouse is my favourite so far, also from an earlier suggestion of The Kitchin there is a link to a nice place called The Scran and Scallie that looks good.
As an addition, if seafood is your thing then Fishers in The City on Thistle Street is very well regarded.Chophouse is my favourite so far, also from an earlier suggestion of The Kitchin there is a link to a nice place called The Scran and Scallie that looks good.
Some Youtuber fella fairly recently did reviews of Chophouse, Makers Mash Shop and The Witchery. All three were VG at what they offer in his opinion - though all three offer quite different things. If I dig up his channel I'll pop it in here.Chophouse is my favourite so far, also from an earlier suggestion of The Kitchin there is a link to a nice place called The Scran and Scallie that looks good.
18 replies before The Witchery was mentioned! unbelievable. But yes, agree with every word. It's Very expensive, but it's an experience. For my 60th me the Mrs, our two children and two friends had a long weekend in Edinburgh. For a special treat I took the six of us to The Witchery at the top of the Royal Mile. It's very expensive (at least it was for us these 5+ years ago) and cost me a bomb, but for a really special treat in a beautiful building it was very, very nice indeed. I have no idea how the fare fares these days, but the reviews on Tripadvisor are 4.5/5
