Edinburgh Restaurant recommendations.

Lots of good places to eat and nice pubs on and around George st.

I like Cafe Andalusia, a tapas place. The place next door, Cadiz is a bit fancier but has a good reputation.

The Dome is really worth seeing if only for a drink but I hear the food is good there also.

If you want a traditional pub try Cafe Royal or the one next door. These are around the back of the east end of Princes St.

Edit… the Guildford Arms.

I am also a big fan of Howies on Waterloo place.

If you want a trip out of town, North Berwick is only about 20 minutes away by train.

Soak up the golf atmosphere there, also good places to eat/drink.

Thanks chaps, I’ve booked The Witchery, I tried The Scran and Scallie but they were booked up already (Valentines day and Calcutta Cup weekend)
We are visiting for 4 days so will definitely be trying a couple of the other suggestions. 👍
If you are looking for stuff to do, The Johnny Walker Experience is really good.

Thanks, sounds right up my alley but not sure the Mrs would agree! It’s our first visit so we will mainly be doing touristy stuff. Mooching around the Royal Mile, visiting the Castle and Arthur’s seat etc.

My missus loved it, and she's not a whisky drinker. It's on Princes St. They have spent a fortune on this, it's over 4 or 5 floors, each with interactive displays as well as guides and actors. you get to make your own whisky cocktails as well as trying their different blends. There is also a rooftop bar / restaurant with great views (you need to book that separately).

The Royal Yacht Britannia is also well worth a visit, easy to get to on the tram. For outdoors stuff, walk up Calton Hill, easily reached on foot from the city centre.

Pop into the Royal Bank of Scotland building on Princes St, it is slightly set back. It is a beautiful building. You will only be in there a few minutes but if it is your first time in Edinburgh, you will be passing it anyway..........

I’ve had a little read about the JW experience and it does look very interesting, I’m going to suggest it at the next Edinburgh Trip meeting 😁

Thanks for the tip. 👍

The camera obscura is worth a visit, up near the castle. It has an optical illusion display on the lower levels with some exhibits that will screw with your head :ROFLMAO:

Just don't go on a rainy day like we did as the views from the top will be much better when they are actually visible!

Chaophraya is a very good Thia restaurant on castle st on 4th floor expensive but worth it, you can also book a glass seating area that overlooks the castle.
I would also recommend Makers mash restaurant in Bank st. very good for lunch and I always go for haggis.

Howies is very good also I go to the one in Walterloo Place nice building and seating area.

You probably had to be there but the wife couldn't remember the name and referred to that as Henry's Chair.

Do you mean the main office on St Andrews Square? Only RBS building I can think of on Princes Street is the branch at the West end.

More on this, last year coming back from Cornwall on the A303 she said “look it’s Stonehenge”.. in the far distance in the fading light I could just see some shapes… as we got closer it was obvious it was just Cows
She then said “ oh no, it’s just Cowhenge”

I honestly chuckled for the next 50 miles. 😁
