Hi everyone got a bit of a dilema with an eBay item
I stopped buying clubs off eBay about 2 years ago when I was duped into buying a fake club but decided to bid on a putter and the guys rating looked ok. Well I was highest bidder with a few hours to go when I received a email from eBay to say I had won . About an hour later the guy emailed me thro eBay saying don't pay for it as he ended the auction early as club was no longer for sale.
My dilema is today I received another email thro eBay offering me the club at the cost I was winning + postage . I was gonna buy the same putter from affordable golf this morning but its more than double I'm now being offered for so not sure if there could be a problem with the eBay seller/club and why would he stop it early when its always the last few hours haft the bids are placed .

I can think of many logical reasons why events occurred that way - he got a better offer than the auction indicated and pulled it, the offer fell through and he can't be bothered going through it all again 'cos he wants some dosh etc

Obviously I would only proceed via ebay systems and paypal, so you just have to factor the risks of having hassle over a refund against the possible value to you of a successful purchase.

send the seller a message, ask if you have won it or not. He may have sold elsewhere but hasnt removed the sale in time so the auction ended and ebay still thinks you have won it 1st time around.

If he says yes its yours then go through the usual ebay / paypal route as that covers you if it gets messy

Duncan's post seems pretty much what I imagined.

Ask the seller what happened and if it concurs - or is otherwise reasonable - then it's likely to be fine.

I'd strongly advise that, in this case, you get everything done through Ebay/Paypal though. Get him to list it as a BIN at your bid price and message you when it has been done. There's a small risk that you might miss out, but worth it imo. The listing cost is quite small and the seller should bear that cost - as a gesture for the hassle he's caused at least.

Otherwise walking away costs you nothing and may save you lots - and more hassle. There'll normally be more of the same in the future.

This bit I DONT understand

As Im under the impression u CANT end the auction early if it has less than 12 Hours to run
This rule was brought in awhile back to give buyer greater confidence/protection, and stop sellers ending early if they thought they wouldnt achieve their price

I suggest contacting ebay customer support and explain it to them.............

I thought it was 24hrs but you can't end early and have a winner. Defo go thru PayPal there does seem something not quite right here.

people still cancel bids within 12 hour cut off, its happened to me, i was about to get a full set of brand new x forged 4-pw for £200 when my bids were cancelled and when i asked why he said "its been sold in the shop", reported him to ebay bugger all happened.

There is a massive kick up about this happening on a regular basis on the ebay forums

You can stop an auction early if you have in writing on the auction "This item is advertised elsewhere so may end auction at any time"

that shouldn't be allowed as per the link a few posts back, in my view that is them saying "if i don't get the price i want you wont be getting it"

now if you bid on something and cant pay for what ever reason you will be penalized but sellers don't
