my little brother is at uni studying sports science. the test was how alcohol effects the body when tying to co-ordinate. all his class and teachers where present and they needed a 2 willing subjects to drink 10 units of alcohol and play darts and golf. i obviously put my hand up for the golf. i drank 3.5 pints of stella (paid for :D) and hit the range. although i think i exceeded 10 units

apart from miss hitting a few i was amazed at the results. i basicly added about 10-15% on to my distances with a 7 iron on driver. all i can think of is how tense i must usualy be and how the alcohol helped relax me. now, do i get bladdered before every game or learn to relax? tough one!

You'll just be dehydrated and needing the loo all the way round if you neck 3 pints before every game!
Give it 6 months and you'll be an alcoholic too!

Some stretching should suffice!

I remember many many years ago 2 assistant pros at my then home club had a challenge to see who could play best drunk. After work they had several beersthen played 9 holes, winning score was in the mid 40s lol

Seem to remember Brian Barnes and John Daly coping pretty well with booze and golf

I think it's fair to say they caught up with Daly pretty quickly though, his ex-wives will probably testify to that :D

I had a round last summer after I'd drunk 4 pints of stella, and my mate Paul had done 5 pints of Magners. Clearly we couldn't drive home, so we thought we'd go out for another 18.
He played out of his skin. Driving it miles (he's long anyway, but this was stupid long).
Me? Useless. Totally useless. Drink and golf are a poor match.

My best mate is much better when he is playing "pi$$ed up golf". Totally useless is a practice round a week before our invit day. On the day we were there at 11am. Four pints before the game and he was brilliant.

interesting find and one i can relate to. i cant play pool until im well on my way. Get me to the pool-hall and for the first 3/4 pints im well shonky, onces the 5th has gone down im a new player. maybe its the same thing you mention about relaxing. Never tried drunk golf, because i know im cr*p as hungover golf.

well what about the other end of the spectrum. does anyone take on caffine drinks or coffie before a game. i would have thought it would benefit mental stimulation but make you more on edge and tenser. i usualy take a red bull or two on the 10th. could this be counter productive?
